Verbatim MCC003, 8x media burned at 12x (PCAV)

Very good result for this media.

Does anyone else have a problem with the 840A sometimes not finishing a burn. Even with stock firmware it gets to the end but never finishes closing the disc.

Only time I ever had that happen was when I was using a bad disc. Otherwise, my lead-outs take a few extra seconds than I think they should, but [at least with SS00] everything was fine. I haven't burned much with SS01, as you can see...

Thanks for the info, Albert. My very first burn, a 20x burn of MCC004, did it and forced me to reset the system and now it has happened a couple more times, when using lesser quality media. It's quite annoying...

Here's the last disc that hung at the end. I had to force it closed in the A3 with Imgburn. I was expecting it to have high errors at the end. Nothing obvious to explain why it hung.

One time the led was off and the other times the LED was still flashing. All times the motor was running at a high RPM and kept running, in one case over 30 minutes before I noticed it hadn't finished.

Sounds like either an improper setup [not likely] or a bum drive, IMHO.

You know what they say: try the drive in another computer for a while, if possible. If it works, keep it. If not, trade it in for a new one.

Imation PRODISC R04, burned at 16x (5:43)

The drive seems to be a bit stingy, as to the media it will burn at 18x and 20x and I can't be bothered to do strategy swapping any more.

Sounds like the 22x Samsung drives will be better in this respect but nothing can beat the LiteOn 20A3 for overclocking, at the moment.

Edit: I would still rate this drive higher than the 112D and 115D.

It might be somehow related to the first burn after a flash and as you can imagine, my drives had a few flashes (and no reboot after the flash).

Could be. Samsung drives have always seemed to be temperamental little things when it comes to flashing.

I will also add that it might have something to do with Nero CD/DVD Speed. Just tried the Prodisc MCC004 that wouldn't burn at 20x using Nero (no additional sense error during the leadin (tried 2 times)) and it now burns fine at 20x with Imgburn.

Write graph, BenQ scan @ 1ECC sum, 840A scan to confirm PIF issue. No TRT.

One of the more quiet burns I've ever experienced, but also one of the more weird burns. No visible issue with the disc, and the PIF jump doesn't occur until some time after a recalibration. Could be part of the strategy. Will do another of these later.

Lead-in took 17.5 seconds. If the lead-out was a bit less time consuming, we'd have even shorter times.

BenQ scan at 8ECC [went to an old CD Speed to try to resolve an issue with the drive pausing at irregular intervals, making the scan take 2x to 3x as long as it should].

My Other Drives Are Reporting That My 840A Has Burnt Disc(s) To DVD-Rom.

I Didn't Tick The Box In CD-DVD Speed To Show Book Type.
