After having this drive for little more than a year, I noticed something really annoying which I haven\'t seen before, with this drive or any other drive I\'ve ever had.
In this past year I\'ve burned some discs, but not many. I usually waited until I had several discs to burn and then burned (and verified) them all in one go, with both single layer as well as dual layer discs. This was never a problem, unless the discs were not of good quality.
But now I burned several Verbatim DVD R DL 8x (MKM-003) in a row, but after the second disc the rest burned at 4x unless I gave the drive a rest for a couple of minutes. I tried firmware SB01 and SB02, both original as well as patched.
Could it be that this drive is already getting old ... after only one year and burning less than 100 discs?

Hi,

so, if you allow your drive to cool down after a burn, all is fine?
Then I don't think there is something wrong here.

You don't ??
I don't think it's normal that a drive needs to cool after just a single burn. My LG GSA-4167B, my Pioneer and Plextor (forgot which models) never had this problem. And I never heard anyone of my friends have a similar experience.
Could you tell me why you think this is normal?

Ok, problem found. Turns out my system cooling was well below par. Cooling fixed and problem solved.
