| yup same thing mine does the drive is dead next it will start having troubles reading disks lets say the windows xp cd when you reload your lappy. its dead. 1) grab a new dvd burner from egay or newegg 2) grab usb burner like the NEC one i got off egay. for some reason mine isnt bootable, which REALLY pisses me off but i dont use the TSST drive anymore so i save that for anything like xp cd's and such that need to boot. no firmware can fix this.. by chance do you have any starforce games that you play on your lappy ? |

A OS installation newly from scratch seems to be inevitable then.

chef, this has absolutely nothing to do with a driver, its the drive... these drives die,, they are not a very good drive plus they are a laptop drive they arent meant to handle the amount of burning that someone of us are putting them thru. when the drive burns 100% and says its ok but then cant read the TOC it has nothing to do with a driver and NO reloading windows doesnt do anything. i have had 2 different variations of this particular drive and one a little older than this and they both do the same thing after a certain amount of time and ther eis no fix for it. dont go reloading windows if you dont have to... how many people have sat here and said that flashing the firmware and reloading don't help ? |
| I still think it's nothing with the drive here, but you cannot excuse it of course... Did I suggest to flash a firmware here?? Where???

| the firware flashing wasnt directed at you that was ingeneral for those wishing that a firmware flash will fix it. i can prove several times over that the drive is screwed. and so can many people here. reloading windows doesnt fix anything. using the legacy ide drivers or standard drivers for the hardware dont fix anything. It's not aspi, nor any other goofy burning software's driver. the drives are shot... nothings going to fix it but a new drive. it wont take long for those having burning issues to start having reading issues also. unfortunately like i mentioned Laptop and other slimline burners just arent made for the long haul.. they just cant handle the abuse a desktop burner does. |
| It was just an idea to try... better than having no idea where to start I think.

| i changed a well working SD-R6012 M/S; Ver NO. 301 ; ROM Ver 1332 by a new TS-L532A; CSEL; Ver No. 000; ROM Ver TI51 that my toshiba satellite 2450-S203 doesn't recognize at boot (error ide 1). Only hot (inserting its swapp buyer swiched on) mounted it became recognized (as pio only) by windows, but doesn't burn (block at 64%) a 4 gb dvd at false 4x . Does sombody know haw to solve, if possible, thank you. |

that drive is fooked throw it away.... why did you change the SD-R6012 if it was working good ? why would you do that ? the L532A is a piece of crap.. if it fials to burn,, if it cant be recognized and then only works in PIO mode the drive is screwed... or your motherboard is bad... but since the other drive worked good then that proves the drive is fooked. throw it away. try maybe reflashing it to another firmware but i doubt it will work.. throw it away |
| It has a wrong firmware not suitable for your burner setup!

Larag, your SD-R6012 has inverse CSEL firmware, but your TS-L532A has CSEL. Just flash the TS-L532A with a inverse CSEL firmware |

you are right about one thing though... it is a software based problem BUT it only appears with windows (i only tested xp maybe others too) but NOT with LINUX or other operating systems... and if it would be really broken (hardware wise) then explain to me why it works fine after formatting and reinstalling windows??? |
| My Samsung tsst corp TS-L532A slim burner works well but is only limited to 4X burns when it should be able to do 8X. The firmware is TI50 and was wondering what firmware I could use to upgrade it to 8X burning as it was advertised? |

i never installed a game on my laptop from what i read in several mags it is some sort of dvd copy protection used on some movie dvds... |
| Good day. I have a problem - tried to upgrade fimware from TI51 to TI94 on my laptop ASUS A6Q00Va. Updating stop on a half about with message - "The error occurred during updating" - and button - power off. According to dvdinfopro i steel have TI51 version, but I couldn't read any dvd. Please, could somebody help me! |
| I have a TS-L532A in an ASUS M6Ne notebook. I've been having burning problems for a long time now. The burn process completes successfully, verification passes, then the DVD is unreadable. This happens with about 3 out of every 10 burns. The strange bit is that the unreadable disks are sometimes readable in other players (but never in a TS-L532A). I have reloaded the notebook to the factory state, tried various versions of Nero, tried both TC51 and TC50 firmware, tried Verbatim, Phillips & Princo disks, both DVD- & +R and tried 8x 4x 2x & 1x burning speeds. I've wasted many hours, disks & money and so far have found no reason or cure. I've had my drive replaced, but the replacement behaves exactly the same. Even disks that are unreadable in the first TS-L532A, but readable in other DVD drives are not readable in the replacement TS-L532A. I have brought failed disks in to show ASUS but they say "they could be from any burner". Now ASUS won't replace it with another drive or model, because they haven't seen it fail and I guess they think I am lying. I have burnt disks in front of them, and they worked, yet when I get home, it fails again. For those wondering: it isn't my geographical location either - I have had failures at many places around the planet. My problems appear to be repeated elsewhere on this thread. How many others are actually having these burn pass read fail problems? Is it simply that the entire range of TS-L532A's are faulty? I've not had a problem reading any other DVD-ROM, DVD- or +R disk from another source. The only thing I have found is that DVD+R disks are a little more reliable than DVD-R disks, and they are read faster too by all drives I have tried them in. However, I would like to add that I was completely insulted by one suggestion by an ASUS employee: to use DVD+/-RW disks so that I could simply re-burn a failed disk. He knew that I wanted to archive photos from my digital camera; RW disks are not as stable as R disks and are therefore not suitable. More expensive too! Another problem is that some of my princo disks that were previously error-free now contain errors. I am in the process of making copies of them. Is this a separate issue or not? Luckily, I've made duplicates so no data loss yet. Lastly, no, I've never played a starforce dvd/cd in any drive I have. Unfortunately, I don't have time for games with all my re-burning! (I kid - I'm busy for other reasons!) Thanks in advance for any help or advice anyone can offer. |
| I have seen this thread and i assume i will have the same burning problems, but now i need please the TSST corp TS-L532A TI51 firmware! from a gateway notebook, if someone knows the link...really appreciated! |
| Troublesome burner. It looks like I have the same problems as all the others who posted, namely: - After burning successfully, as long as the dvd doesn't get out of the drive it can still be read but once you pop it out it and put it back in it can never be read again... though other dvd-drives can read it... - Burning starts at 2x even though you set it at 4x, then when a quarter or a third of the burning process is complete it'll gradually increase. I'm using the X194 firmware. If these problems can be resolved with a firmware upgrade then share your experiences and post. Thanks. |

i couldn't help but notice this post and would like to point out that i have had starforce running on my pc with the ts-l532a firmware ti51 with no problems and have consistently read/burnt cds with 8x or more. the problem of the dma mode turning into pio mode is not a starforce problem. in fact when i was reading and writing and extracting mp3s from my musical cds. i began to experience the dma to pio mode changes. solution: the dma -> pio mode problem is in fact a known windows xp bug please refer to the following link and fix ur windows xp installation. do this solution as it is working for me as well by following the bottom instructions to edit the registry "on second thoughts i'm not sure if i did this on my pc since this was quite a while ago" http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;817472 "after looking back at my registry, i have found that this solution works for the ide controller that is connected to your dvd/cd drive" http://sniptools.com/tipstricks/gett...-in-windows-xp ps: patiently waiting for the rpc1 ti51 firmware |
