never been on a forum before so bear with me ive got a laptop with a samsung ts-l532a drive and itb thinks its a cd-rom drive poor thing.
ive looked everywhere for a driver for this drive does anyone know where i can find one as the samsung website doesnt have one any help would be appreciated. thx

Hi all. 1st time poster here. I have a Samsung CD/DVDW TS-L532A in my Gateway M520 notebook. My firmware TS30. My computer was installed with it. I can burn on some media (Datawrite Yellow DVD-R 8x) with this drive while some just burns unreadable discs (Datawrite Titanium DVD-R 8x). I have yet to be burn any media at 8x, the drive's advertised speed.

Should I just be greatful for what I have, or will a firmware upgrade improve my drive's performance? If so which one, and how do i find it?

HI!
I changed my dvd burner (TS-L532A slim burner) firmware to rpc1, TI51 to XI94. But now the burner can´t burn cd`s enymore (can´t even read)!
Working with dvd-s is ok and working, but not on cd-s.
Is there enybody who have a TI51 firmware?

Just uninstall all IDE-Channels and restart your laptop

well i can report the same stuff happening to me guys.

i flashed to the X194 firmware and it didnt help.
my original was T151

it would burn and read disks but no matter what DVD brand i used or burning program i used. it would burn all the way thru and say it is 100% and say it completed, but when it tries to read the disk, it says unable to retrieve TOC.

I want you to take a little bit and go read about StarForce and what its doing to cd/dvd drives

there is a huge forum which is run by a close friend of mine, Starforce is killing cd/dvd drives because of the way attacks the drive and it tells it to constantly run in what we call overburn mode. even when reading its forcing the laser to extend past its safe zone on the cd/dvd, thus making it run in an over burn style mode, while reading.

This has been proven, by these guys, and several gaming and PC magazines who did tests on several dvd drives and had the same results, after a period of time using starforce protected dvd/cd the drive started to have unexplained failures.

1 fix was to go to the IDE channel and check if its in PIO mode or DMA mode. starforce causes your cd/dvd to PIO mode which can damage many drives if forced into PIO mode for a long time.

If the drive is in DMA mode ther eis nothing you can do, the drive is damaged. and damaged by starforce.

there is no other fix, you must replace the drive.

flashing the firware doesnt fix anything simply because the physical aspects of the drive are damaged,

its a fact tosh. i wold hope you of al people would know this.

PIO mode can damage a drive if left in PIO mode for extended periods of time, such as hours of game play.

old drives used pio mode just fine but newer drives can't use PIO mode properly

go try and burn something in PIO mode and see what happens.. your drive might handle it ok but many drives cant handle PIO mode properly. why the hell do you think one of the very first trouble shooting fixes for CD/DVD issues is to check if its in PIO mode or DMA mode.

Please if you dont know what your talking about dont come at me saying i dont know,, cuz i do.

i dont screw with firmwares very often. but when it comes to the hardware end of things. i know..

its a fact TOSH go look for yourself. you hsould already know these things before you go jacking around with firmware.
It's also a proven fact about StarForce and it killing drives

TOSH once again, i am shocked by the by your replies.... o am i mistaking your jokes as seriousness.

runnig a dvd in PIO mode si the same analogy as running a higher mhz cpu at a lower mhz its the same thing.

you gotta understand what PIO mode is ? and how it differs vs DMA mode ? there are tons of warning around on how not to run dvd drives in PIO mode as they may damage them. im sure you've seen those warnings.

my statement holds true.. those of you with issues stop for a minute and go back thru your games and find out which games are using star force.
Star force uses a Ring 0 modified attack and it forces your dvd to run at Ring 0 for extended periods. which if anyone knows anything is BAD VERY BAD..
and it will kill a dvd. laptop or not.

and uninstalling the ide channels dont do squat.. neither does a total hard drive blowout and reformat... once the drives shows these issues its dead you might as well hit up ebay or newegg for a new dvd burner.. cuz it will never work right again.

and i am now currently trying the T194 firmware were i was using X194 and nothing has changed all burns write 100% are reported as good burns but then nothing can read them.. not my laptop, not my 2 desktops, not my dvd player, xbox ps2 or xbox360 none if them

so i went and grabbed a lite-on DL 16x burner from walmar and stuck it into a usb enclosure.. works like a champ.. internal laptop burners are just too pricey for their limited life span..

Why not download a no-cd hack for your games, this would stop them using the drive.

I have recently bought a dell Inspiron notebook, it has a TSSTcorp TS-L352B drive with a DE03 firmware. This is just a TS-L352A branded for dell but it will not accept any 352A or equivilent firmwares, no surprises here. I have no intention of using the drive other than reliably backing up my system and playing the odd DVD so I guess I won't have any problems as long as I avoid memorex & philips media ;-). It would be nice however to remove any RPC or Rip Lock limitations it may have.

How can I backup/dump my current original firmware to a bin file?

I would like to compare the original stock 352A firmware and examine the differences with ultracompare and maybe produce a working firmware for the 352B. Alternatively I could post the 352B firmware for the experts to play with.

do you get an error when they burn ? or do they burn 100% but then nothing can read them ?

throw a burnt one into DVD Decryptor... if it says Can't Read TOC (table of contents)

then your burner has screwed the pooch and no firmware out there will make it burn correctly again.
and is this both cd/dvd's ? movie, data, music.. anything you try ?

i have all the respect in the world for the guys who are modding this firmware, but when a drive is done for... there isnt a firmware out there going to fix it.

Thnx for your reaction.

The burner completes the whole 100%, but when I want to read the DVD I only see an empty disc. It are only DVD's, any DVD-brand and any kind of data.

DVD Decryptor gives the 'Can't read TOC'.
