To tell the truth, this issue with writhing Ultraspeed CD-RWs is not so important for me because i mostly use DVD+RW disks for storing distrib data and MP3 files.

Just thought I'd mention this: Datawrite Titanium DVD-R's are NOT compatible!
You can write them at 8x but almost every disc I've written (over 50 now) has problems. Some just can't be read again (they have read errors) and others have problems while playing in the DVD player.
I'm desperately searching for decent media. The next ones I'll try will be verbatim.

These were the Pastel discs, turn out to be TYG02 (real taiyo yuden!).
I've tried SONY branded MCC 1 g20 (or something similar) 4x media and they work quite well too.

Alright I have a Gateway M520X, with the TSSTCorp CD/DVDW TS-L532A with firmware TS-30 (09/28/04)

I can read DVD's without a problem, I can Read/Burn CD-R/DC-RW's Without a problem, but when I try (tried numerous programs I get the same damn error) to burn DVD+R or DVD-R (supports both checked with DVDinfopro) I keep getting this error..

I've purchased a notebook with a ts-l532a and have problems burning dvds.
I've seen someone of you has tried flashing a new firmware. I've contacted samsung to tell them about my problem and they told me they want a number written under the bar code of the drive to send me the firmware, if it exists. They are a little bit fool. I've have the tm50 fw version. I've already downloaded the two fw versions of the firmware on the toshiba site. Can i go on flashing my drive with one of these fws? Or there is the risk to destroy it?

can you make a backup of your firmware andf email it to me? (patrick.bureau@gmail.com) , the reason I ask is that I did not do that and I may have to return the drive to gateway (talking to them right now) and I have another firmware on it right now (SB00).

And to answer your question, I have used the WinVupL532A application to change it to SB00/SH00 and even made it a Toshiba SD-R6472 TU51/TI51 Drive, but it never solved my problem.

I recently got a notebook (Compaq Presario R4009EA), equipped with this DVD-writer. Unfortunately, it seems somehow locked to "Multi-Word DMA 2", and none of the well-known tricks seems to get it @Ultra DMA 2.

Any hints?

After I`ve flashed my TS-L532 -> SD-6472 from Firmware 50->51 I`ve the problem that the burned DVD`s are not useable (are not recodnized by any Player oder DVD-Rom drive). So I`ve buy a new DVD slimline burner SD-6572 every thing works fine but after a Firmware update from TU04->TU05 ì`ve the same problem : the DVD`s I burn are not useable.

My Notebook ASUS 1522

I think that this notebook is generally not compatible to the Toshiba / Samsung Firmware upgrades.

I hope that Asus can solve the problem with a modified firmware.

I tried to burn a DVD yesterday after using DVD Shrink to compress it and it only gave the options of 2/2.4X which is strange because 2.4X is an odd number. Also when I use ZRG's tool it dosen't let me flash saying the firmware is incompatible. However if I use the WinVup tool it lets me flash but I don't want to go ahead with it just yet.

The problem is the DVD's I burn are all empty or don't read.

All problems with dvd's here also...
Drive won't read DVD+RW (philips 4x RITEK 004) and platinum DVD+R (RITEK also. Both burnt on a NEC3540, booktype = DVD-ROM.
Is this also a common problem (reading DVD's) or is the drive faulty?
No probs with CD R/RW's yet, even burning is ok.

Burning a philips DVD+RW only worked on 2,4 speed, but is unreadable after that.....
So far not so happy with this drive (which came with my Asus A6Ne notebook). Firmware is TC51 btw.

Hi all,
Thanks for the info in this post - turned my 532 from a problem non DL writer to a great DL +/-R,RW. (Used to burn discs one speed slower than stated... 2x for 4x discs, 4x for 8x discs, etc)

I've posted another link to the files held on my own server, compressed in the RAR format just incase the files get removed somehow from the other site.

PS. Stargate64, if you haven't already, try this:

In your Device Manager (I am presuming you are using WinXP Home or Pro) find the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, expand the selection and remove the one controlling your DVD drive - restart and upon doing that it should reinstall and let you change the mode. You could also check your BIOS on restart just incase its locked to Multi Word.

After fiddling around with firmwares and all (I tried the TR51, and SB200), I ended up sending back the drive. My initial problem was similar to everyone else's. It burned DVDs poorly no matter what media I used. The times it was successful, it had difficulty reading the disc that was just burned. I just received my replacement drive and everything works well.

I'm convinced that there's just poor quality control on this particular drive. I suggest to anyone to send back their drive for a replacement, if they're having these types of issues.

On a side note, my drive was the l532a burner that they put in Asus notebooks with TI51 firmware. Also with my replacement drive, I'm having good results with Ritek and TDKs, which the defective drive used to just spit out, which is the other reason I'm thinking poor quality control.

Same story here. RMA-ed the drive and the one I got now read's en writes DVD's! Only thing is that my 8 speed platinums can only be burned at 4 speed, but i can live with that. Firmware of the new drive is still TC51 though...

i've got a question about this burner. All i want to do is convert my cd to mp3s. "Morcheeba -Charanga " locks up my drive. have to turn off my laptop then take the disc out during reboot. "COldPLay X &Y" couldn't play. is this part of Copy Protection? is there anyway of gettign around that with this drive?
i have tried Easy CD-DA exractor, iTune, WMP. Blindwrite. none of them will even recognise the cd is in the drive!
