I had my first look at the TS-H552B & TS-H552U firmware today and I was able to locate the read speed lock routine. I can easily patch it to read all media the would normally read at 8x to read at 12x, which is most media. 16x is possible as well but it may be too fast for some media.

I have TS-H552B TS10 & TS-H552U US06 but I cannot find TS12. Can someone please point me in the direction of this firmware.

I have not tried this patch so I will need some alpha testers first. Please post in this thread if you would like to try this patch.

Interesting. I can test this with my TS-H552U US06. Today I only use that drive for quality scans at 4x CLV.

That drive needs a massive firmware improvement in quality over 8x-16x burning speeds.

I you want i can be a tester with my TS-H552B TS12 firmware. I have my Samsung connected in VIA 6410 RAID IDE but after the last Nero update the drive is resetting all the time. Need to fix this.

Resume: 2nd test firmware:

DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW 3.3x - 8x ( no changes from the original )
DVD-VIDEO 6.7 - 16x ( some medias looks unstable after 13x )

As I explain into the PM looks at burst speeds.

41MB/s before reboot and 25MB/s after reboot. ( 3 times each )

Is that video dual layer? Strange, as I only increased the 8x media to 12x. Perhaps there is no 12x available, so it went to 16x instead.

The burst rate must be something to do with the original firmware, as this patch would not affect that.

No. The disk was single layer pressed DVD-VIDEO.
I will test a dual layer DVD-ROM and DVD+R DL today.

I just notice that after the upgrade and before the reboot the burst increases.

I know you have it already, but as finding firmware is a general problem, start here for the latest Samsung firmwares. Entering "552b" in the search field leads you to what you have searched for.

I have not tried this patch so I will need some alpha testers first. Please post in this thread if you would like to try this patch.
Looks like Dell is pushing out the H553s on their systems. Any chance of taking a look at this FW?
