I'm not an expert in reading these scans, but is this as good a burner as the scans seem to indicate? Especially on the Verbatim DVD+s. A couple of coasters here and there it looks like?

I was going to get the cheap lite-on, but didn't like the reports of loudness, and from what I understand of the scans this one looks better. Or am I missing something?

Hard to say. The drive seems a bit inconsistent, and will need some firmware updates to make it more of a definite recommendation.

I do have to say though, that the jitter levels on even the crappiest burns are fantastic.

I'm getting nothing but coasters with this burner. I've tried both DVD+ and DVD-, at all different speeds. Most of the time it fails with "Unspecified target error." I'd flash the firmware, but I don't know how to do that in linux.

Major disappointment, I guess I'll stick with Lite-On, which has burned thousands of CDs on my linux box with the same 48x burner for a couple of years without a hitch.

False Alarm!! Turns out it was a HAL issue in linux. Upgraded the package, and now this burner is working awesome.

I also got the Lite-On when I thought this one was failing -- the samsung seems much more solid! Definitely like this drive.
