Verbatim DVD+R DL MKM003 @16x burn speed (ala42 MediaCodeSpeedEdit patched SB01)

It couldn't maintain 16x on the 2nd layer (the scan shows why).
If the layers had different strategy to select the results may be perfect.
1st layer = RICOH strategy
2nd layer = original MKM003 strategy

Well, just dreaming....

off topic/

is 10x the maximum speed of MKM003 with SB01 ?

This is S203B discussion thread, so your question is not "off topic".
AFAICS MKM003 is 12x max in SB01 firmware.

BTW, my guess dee-27 tried RICOHJPN-D02 strategy above...

It was indeed RICOHJPND02
Which reminds me, 10x is max MKM003 with SB01, although MediaCodeSpeedEdit shows it as 12x

What burn speed do you think would bring the best result using MKM003 with this drive?

Yeah zhadoom, but now we are in Samsung S203B thread... MKM001@MKM003 10x.
My thanks to our member ala42 making all this possible.

MID: MKM001 Verbatim MIS
Type: DVD+DL 2.4x rated (4x max in firmware)
Burned with: ImgBurn 2.3.2.0
Burned as: Image 7.65GB movie
Burned at: 10x speed
Burntime: 12:33 (+ preburn calibration 49 seconds)
Drive/Firmware: SH-S203B /SB01_stock
Scanned with: Lite-On LH-18A1P at 8x.

Note. Reads back perfect at layer break when watching this movie, can't see the reason for those high pif's at 4GB.

Interesting how different drives see the very same disc. That's the reason why we never can compare scans from different drives.
At least some of the difference in the DQ test results is due to each brand drive using a different scanning interval. It would be more useful I think if each drive could be "set" to use the same scanning interval, but that is wishful thinking, I know.
Still, the Samsung drive does use more samples in the 8X DQ test result than the Lite-On--so more errors reported would be expected to be shown by the Samsung if all other factors are supposed equal. A questionable supposition I know as well.

To avoid this effect of different scanning interval its more adequate compare using the average field of PIE e PIF. The average (in theory) cannot be afected by the scanning interval. Total of PIE/PIF can be considered if scanning various disks using the same drive.

Maybe a little off topic here but I need some help, I installed the drive, it works, but the Nvidia Controller recognizes the drive like below. When I check with VSO Inpector it is recognized as an IDE device.

The scans of 20x burns shows relatively high jitter in special at the end of the disk ( 12-13% ). I believe that this high jitter affect the readability of the disks in standalone players.

This is an actual burn of a movie at 20X with MCC004, is everyone else finding a long lead-in burn time with drive (42sec)

Hi Alan. Nice burns. Have you read nealh's post 663 about the 20X MCC004's not playing when burned at 20X? Does yours play ok?

I take it you like the 203B better

Congratulation alan1476, great burns on this new champ of yours.

About preburn calibration, all I can say my drive only needs 17 to 21 seconds on plus media. For dash and +DL media drive needs a little longer time (36-48 s.)

What VSO burning apps, ImgBurn aso tells you is pure crap, cause those progs are not originally designed for drives connected on SATA bus.

I am still not sure. I am finding usually long leadin burn times. I do like it better than the SH202 but my LGH42 has a better total time at 18X than this does at 20X, when you include the leadin and finalization.

Then something is wrong with mine. It needs 42 sec on YudenT03 and MCC004. And I would also like to know why programs are detecting it as an IDE drive. ( VSO Inspector) and others.

I am not understanding Rolling56, if pinto2 is getting a preburn calibration of 17 to 21 secs and I am getting 42 seconds I have to fiqure out why. I am talking about + media, I dont use dash media. Maybe it has something to do with the Nvidia drivers.

Off topic.

Sorry my knowledged fellas but can't understand why you are all talking about "lead-in" times. Drives activity before burn has nothing to do with lead-in.

@alan1476, preburn calibration time maybe can be related to sata controller/drivers drive is connected to. But here I'm just speculating.
BTW, you can't compare S203B with LG H42 because they use different main chip (preburn calibration is different).
