Thanks,

DVD-R for Authoring are different then DVD-R General

Authoring DVDs are a lot more expensive, pretty much no one uses them, I know of only one dvd burner that can burn them, and that dvd burnber cost over 1,000 by pioneer.

I search google but I could not find anything about such a drive, I hope I made a wise move buying this drive. I thought is the same as 203b except for LS and DVD-RAM (which I don't use). I am just so used to my BENQ drives, hopefully will be a good drve.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, it just sounded weird...like I wouldn't be able to use it for burning video DVD-R, but now I get it.

No typo Pinto2, I just verified, its the same burner as the 203 if you buy the SATA version. But Newegg also got a PATA version that is new. I just ordered one. I should have it in a few days. I will let you all know.

so has anyone defined the weaknesses, if any of the 203b? Is the -R lead-in issue fixed? How is CD burning quality? Are there any other quality related issues for DVD or CD? I frankly don't care about speed or scanning - I just want a drive that will reliably burn high quality CD and DVD discs, preferably including DL discs. SATA would be nice as well, but not necessary. Is the 203B my drive?

Hopefully now we will start to see some more results from this drive.

Perhap a thread name change or should we start a new scans and discussion thread?

I notice that CDSpeed show that the burner used is a 183B. Some posts show this too and others show as 203B. Anyone have a clue about that ?

SO I bought a drive, locally from a UK seller based on the opinions of this thread, gotta say I love...... for the fact that it's my first sata optical drive.

However its useless at this point as windows is asking for drivers (Vista Ultimate x64). Where can I get these? Or is there a workaround?

A new thread for scans is necessary because this one is quite messed up by now and noone will have the time to browse thru all 15 pages... (BTW, I'm also part of "mess". )
[My thanks to nekrosoft13, starter of this thread.]

Just ordered my first SATA burner, must try the S203 out.

We have to make newegg aware of this, not creating even bigger 202/203 confusion.
Here in old world (Europe) the distinction is very clear.

Yeah, but the specs on the SATA drive on Newegg says 12X Dual Layer burn. The 203B has 16X. If your source is correct, not only does Newegg have the model number wrong...but also the specs
