not sure if MCE is working correctly with that firmware, because it says that only ricoh DVD+R DL can be written at 16x

maybe thats not correct.

1st gen verbatim are limited to 4x, and 3rd gen varbatim are limited to 8x

probably will be a while before we see 16x dvd+r dl, there is still a shitload of 2.4x media in stores.

Definitely impressive, though - though what use 16x DL burning will be here in the UK, when in B&M stores you're very lucky to find 8x (reminds me of 12x DVD-RAM ).

why didn't they add LS to the SATA drive

Scan of disc done with CloneDVD2, write speed Max (in this case 18x is max with this media [MC 004]). Time taken 5.16 mins.
