I think you have to set something in your burning app to do this. What application(s) are you using?

It has been automatic for me using ImgBurn. All the +R's I've burned are set to DVD-ROM.

Bitsetting setting is only temporary on my 230B set ie. lost after powering down , bummer.

Hi
Bitsetting is temporal with the Samsung SH-S203B,
As already mentioned this means setting it each time.
However some s/w can have the setting so it is 'automatic' when those applications are used.
If using a program that does not do this ( CloneDVD2 for example), then you can use CD/DVDSpeed to do the bitsetting & still use the other s/w to burn.

Hi
Hadn't tried that m8, believe it or not.
Anyway, have now.
See attached.
Burn using CloneDVD2.

The result as shown by Neros' CD/DVDSpeed.
N.B. This may be Vista related. So users of other OS may still want to give it a go.

ImgBurn can do it automatically for LG and Samsung drives.

Wonder if CDSpeed will ever have this auto-booktype option one day cos that's my most often used ISO burning program.

Well, ImgBurn stopped bitsetting my MCC 004 media... and for that matter anything else I throw at it. It still burns DVD-R media.

Anyone seen this error before (don't mind the elapsed time, I walked out for a bit):

Strange... Burned a data disc again and it was fine... it auto bitset to DVD-ROM and worked fine... it is just a couple of DVD Video iso image that is a problem... same images burned fine with my Plextor PX-755SA. Anyone else have this issue burning video DVD's?

As for the 202G, Nero Burning ROM will actually remember the setting when Choose Recorder option is selected and change from Automatic to DVD-ROM. However, under CD-DVD Speed 4.7.7.3, it claimed to have set it, but doesn't reflect the change instantly like other brands. Yet, it still comes out as -ROM, as I've verified it with +R and +R9.

Never seen that.
Judging where error happens most probably drive has problem to decide what booktype bits to write when it is writing disc table (TOC).

I re-ripped the DVD's and let CloneDVD write them as DVD files instead of an image... then let shrink compress and ImgBurn make the image... Voila! The SH-S203B burned them without a hitch... Kinda strange, since my PX-755SA burned the original image fine... But hey, I'm not complaining... it works now.

Ordered a second SH-S203B today... Great drive!

Some drives like SH-W162C and others support bitsetting but not answer to a query about your state. Using CDSpeed the drive have the bitsetting buttons enabled but no visible changes after selecting but in pratice the bitsetting works.

Imgburn shows that the drive support bitsetting but cannot show your state.

I assume there's no 500 countdown for temporary bitsetting like the nec drives. But it is good if the s203b comes with the ability to bitset for all + types.
