They have edited the registry in order to enable scanning with CDSpeed on Samsung drives.

Editing your registry can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.

If you're running a 32-bit Windows you need to remove the SAMSUNG and TSST words from this registry key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ahead\Nero Toolkit\CD Speed\CD Quality]
"Blocked"="SAMSUNG,TSST,HL-DT-ST,PLEXTOR"

Don't remove the whole string, however.

If you have 64-bit windows, you'll need to change this registry key instead:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ahead\Nero Toolkit\CD Speed\CD Quality]
"Blocked"="SAMSUNG,TSST,HL-DT-ST,PLEXTOR"

I have attached two zipped registry files, one for 32 bit Windows and one for 64bit Windows. Download the right one, unzip it and run the registry file.

I haven't tested the 64bit version as I don't have 64bit Windows available.

Welcome to CDFreaks BTW!
I didn't see anyone say anything for the 64 bit. I use Vista and it is the 64 bit as well and will test this for my LG and samsung drive and report back. I assume that this will work for the LG H55L and the SH-203N?

The samsung 203n will not work with the reg in the zip. Nor does the H55L so everyone knows that don't.

Let me add Drage that if you want to continue to test for the 64 bit and the drive models I own I'll gladly test it for our members here.

LG drives can't scan anyway. Also, I don't see, why the 203N shouldn't work, since there isn't much difference to the 203B apart from the Lightscribe feature.
Do it the manual way:
Run CD/DVD Speed and attempt to scan (won't work, of course). The "blocked" key will be created then.
Then run regedit and search for "blocked".
You should then be able to locate the list of blocked drives and edit them manually.

Thanks I went into the registry and there wasn't the SAMSUNG,TSST at all so the reg apparently did work but I can't get the samsung to scan. I am on Vista Ultimate 64 bit edition so this may be why I can't. Any ideals?

New version of Nero CD-DVD Speed, which is "DiscSpeed.exe", version 4.9.0.0 uses other registry key. Here it is -

---
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Nero\Nero8\Nero Toolkit\DiscSpeed\CD Quality]
"Blocked"="HL-DT-ST,PLEXTOR"
---

Help Mr. Wizard!
Okay. I have Samsung S203n, and I downloaded CDSPEED (version 4.7.7.5). I made the registry change and removed the SAMSUNG entry from the registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ahead\Nero Toolkit\CD Speed. There was no other AHEAD entry anywhere else. I ran CDSPEED in Admin mode, and the Disk Quality "start" is greyed out.

Rob make sure you use the correct way with the OS version > http://club.cdfreaks.com/1803665-post.html

Also do not take all of them out.......just get rid of Sammy only.

What do you mean portable? I run it without have Nero (the application) itself loaded. 4.7.7.16 that is.

I only have 4.7.7.16 CD-DVD Speed without Nero loaded and had to set my registry to allow quality scanning no problems. I have done this with XP Pro 32 bit and Vi$ta Ultimate 64 bit.

I have a 183L,203B,and a 223F.

Have you read the instructions?

Edit:
You might have to put Nero's or Frog wnaspi32dll in the same folder.

Did you check in Nero also. Look in both Ahead and Nero.

What version of CD-DVD Speed are you using?

On my Vi$ta 64 bit OS it's all under Current_User. There's no Nero or Ahead in Local_Machine.

Normally, the registry entries are created if CD/DVD Speed is used first time. But I have no idea how the modifications done by the Nero micro guys affect this.

He probably didn't have WNASPI.DLL (or FROGASPI.DLL) in the same folder with the program.
