Yes, a S183L is already listed at Samsung Firmware Page. I think this drive will be released soon.

First save it and then use the attachment feature on the bottom of your post message window.

Yo-

Some burns with my new Sammy S182M w/SB02

First are with Verbatim 16x +R MCC004 at 18x, 12x and 8x

Next is with Taiyo Yuden 8x +R T02 at 8x

Looks like 8x is the best speed to burn these medias-eh!

Hi there
Is my first post here , haha great
I just want to say that I've been reading everything about Samsung SH-S182M and I think it's a good drive. So I bought one today
Before this one, I had a benq1625 also lightscribe, but it didn't last long... but anyway, I'm happy with the new Samsung, is great
I also did a test with Nero, and on both discs I got the same results. Quality score: 100 I've been using the same discs every time - benq cd-r. So I can say BenQ1625 is as good as this Samsung.
But when it comes to Lightscribe, BenQ is better, because it has more contrast on the prints and the picture looks perfect. Samsung has some circles around the disc, which is not cool, but I can live with that.

Sorry to disappoint you, but your Samsung is apparently not able to report C1/C2 errors for CD media. There is no such thing as a disc without at least C1 errors.

I just got two of these, how do I "change a string in the registry"? and will it scan as an external?

Yeah I'm afraid you're right. That was too good to be true.
Is there any chance it could be Nero's fault? And if is not, there's anything I can do to fix this?
I'll try to take the test with another drive.

Please use the latest CD DVD Speed 4.60 (www.cdspeed2000.com) and remove SAMSUNG,TSST from the blocked drives in the registry.

Thanks Cressida. Now is working great
Unfortunately there is an inconvenient, the results are not so good as before lol.
Is funny I got better results on this Samsung drive than on the BenQ, I had before.
I'm happy with this drive

Im having a problem with my new s182M. The burns are good, but when I use Nero CD-DVD Speed, anything over 8x slows down after the 2GB range and drops back to 8x. Is there something I don't know?

Verbatim MCC004 CMC Taiwan burned w S182M SB02.
12x, 16x, 18x respectively. First 3 are scanned by the S182M. The next three are the same discs by scanned by a BenQ1655.

It's nothing wrong with your drive. This drive has Speed Adjustment Technology.

This product is set up with best speed for safe operation. You can reset to Maxspeed mode by using Magic Speed Program.

Magic speed is only for CD-R's...

@jtoaks make sure DMA is on for the drive.

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101616

Will you also do a burst rate test in nero cdspeed?

Also with th CD scans, I don't think believe the S182x drive is a reliable CD-R scanner, I would only trust a BenQ or Lite-on (Plextor maybe? Don't know I don't have one)

I figured out my problem I think. I didn't realize that external enclosures via USB2.0 could cause problems with burst rates and throughput on high speed burns. I switched the Sammy to IDE and put the Benq in the enclosure and Im getting better results. I never burn anything over 12x in the BenQ anyway. Notice the burn speeds increase smoothly this time and doesn't readjust.

Here is Verbatim MCC004 CMC Taiwan burned w/ S182M SB02 (and now on IDE as a master )

8x,12x,16x

Does this Samsung 182M have buffer underrun protection? I notice if Im doing something with my computer & writing a disk, there are often empty rings on the completed disk sometimes. Im using Verbs. They write fine if I don't do stuff with the computer when its busy writing at 16x.
