Just guessing, your SATA might be in AHCI mode (BIOS setting). IDE/Legacy is preferred for Optical Disc Drives.

You'll need to provide your mobo/SATA specs for more help. Could be the SATA driver as well.

Welcome to the Forums.

Think i've solved it, there was a conflict between controllers as i have two ESATA ports as well, reinstalled the drivers for them and all seems to be ok now... Hopefully.

Hi guys, i am a new member. I have a PC with an SH-183A, but i am not online with it to download the drivers, and i have the usual problems of not being able to burn ect. Is there anywhere i can download the drivers to transfer by memory stick? (I can not find on google!)

Grrrr mines still not working gonna try updating the chipset drivers again.

Bulldog if your after the firmware upgrade you can download it here (its the SB03 one): http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/pr...e=FM&language=

Begining to think mine might be faulty, will be really annoyed if it is cos i've wasted no end of disks trying to fix it!

What drivers do you need? Drivers for your drive? Nope. There is no such thing like downloadable drivers for optical drives.

  1. Make sure, you SATA controllers your drive is connected to are running in IDE compatible mode. This should work for Intel and most Nvidia SATA controllers. This is done in BIOS setup of your computer.
  2. Some SATA controllers (like VIA) don't run in IDE compatible mode, then you'll have to install the latest drivers for your mainboard chipset (or SATA controller).
  3. This also applies for 3rd party controllers that are soldered onto the mainboard or installed as add-on card.
  4. If your Harddisks are configured as RAID, then there is a bigger problem. Perhaps some connectors can be set to other operating modes.
So if you need any drivers, then those for your SATA controller. Nothing else. Maybe a mainboard BIOS update might help also.

Thanks for the help, the sata interface is set to ide in bios so no problem there my board has also an intel serial ata controller so im guessing it shouldn't be a problem.
Im not running and HDD in raid so that can't be an issue, time to order a replacement me thinks.
