Hi guys!
Am getting a strange issue with this drive and can't figure out what's going wrong so plz heeeeelp!
The problem is that i can't burn any dvd 16x,18x over 12x.With nero cdspeed i get a max speed of 14x and then the burner slows down. When i create a data dvd through cdspeed i see full speed (18x) with no issues. When i burn an image file through the same software i get the same (as nero) speed issue.

Burst speed of the drive: 25Mb/Sec

Media used:
Verbatim 16x DVD+R
TDK 16x DVD-R

What is going wrong???
Later i'll attach some screens from cdspeed inorder to let you see the problem.
TIA

What is your burst rate of your Samsung?

The first screenshot - which disc is that, TDK or Verbatim?

Make sure your source drive is well defragged. 25Mb/sec burst rate is fine.

Hi,

what happens if you are using other software like Nero or ImgBurn? The time that is needed to burn a full disc should indicate how fast the burn was in reality.

For me, this looks like some interface issue.
If I understood your initial post correctly, then the speed drops down, if you burn data from your harddisk. This does not happen if you fill the disc with the test data provided by CD/DVD Speed.

Maybe your HDD is not fast enough for whatever reason.
Please check the DMA mode of any drive in your system. Also tell us, what drives are connected and how they are connected and configured (Primary/Secondary IDE, Master/Slave etc.) According to your screenshot, your Samsung is connected as Slave on the Secondary IDE port. What about the Master drive here?
Maybe this information helps to narrow down the problem.

Ok, the test is right, but you probably need to defragment your drive. That test just reads and writes a bunch of sequential data on your drive. That's the best case possible, and that's the reason why these kind of tests are called "synthetic" and cannot be trusted. When you burn, data is not probably so well organized on your drive, and that's why these are called "real life" situations.

Hi,

I am not sure if a fragmented HDD will cause a slowdown like this, since the HDD isn't that slow.
Another possible issue might be the IDE chipset and its drivers. Could you please post further details about your IDE controller chipset and what drivers are used for this?
The easiest way to do that is using Nero Infotool ver. 4.03 (Yes, the older one) and check the configuration tab (see screenshot)

The drive is already defragmented

Hi geocha,

you are using a too new version - you need the older 4.03 (If you can't find it, then PM me please). Then select the IDE channel your drive is connected to (see my sample screenshot).

You are using too new a version of Nero Info Tool. He was suggesting to use version 4.03, which shows more information that could be used to help identify the problem.

The link is to a Google search, and the first result is a page where you can download the older version.

Hi,

you Primary IDE Channel is run by Atapi.sys. This is good. Please also check wether this is true for the secondary channel either (Just click on the Secondary IDE Channel and look at the "Driver Information" on the bottom of the Window).

Is there any drive connected to the Promise RAID controller? If not, then please disable it (if it's onboard) in BIOS. If that is an add-on card, then remove it.
You might also uninstall Daemon Tools, just for troubleshooting.
