Samsung Writer Discuss, ***Samsung Burn Quality Hall of Fame*** at CD, DVD and Blu-ray Writers forum; Hi. years back we had a thread in BenQ forum dedicated for our best burns. Now that Samsung drives seem to be improving in all aspects I feel it's on time for a burn quality thread in this forum section as well. Requirements * Minimum burn speed; 12x * Minimum

    Hi.
    years back we had a thread in BenQ forum dedicated for our best burns. Now that Samsung drives seem to be improving in all aspects I feel it's on time for a burn quality thread in this forum section as well.

    Requirements

    * Minimum burn speed; 12x
    * Minimum data burned; 4400MB
    * Maximum PI Error value; 20, total PIE max. 20.000
    * Maximum PI Failures value; 2 for Samsung/Lite-On drives, 6 for BenQ's
    * Standard scanning speed; 8x
    * Submit Transfer Rate Test

    Please adhere to these rules.

    Also, please include typing the key information from your burn and scan in body of your message (Media code, Burn speed and time, Quality score, PIE total, PIE max, PIF total, and PIF max). If you posted your image already, then just use the "Insert Hyperlink" and point to the individual post.

    Note. Parts of this post are copied from insaneoctanes thread linked above and I'm sending my thanks to him.

    Gentlemen, start up your Samsung burners.

    PIF= 1 / 8

    MID: MCC003 (Verbatim branded) MIT
    Type: DVD+R 8x rated
    Burned with: CD DVD Speed 4.7.5.0
    Burned as: Create Disc /burn image
    Burned at: 12x speed

    Drive/Firmware: SH-S203B /SB00_stock

    You can set your own rules of course, but in my experience a maximum value of 4 PIF per 8 ECC blocks in a BenQ scan is much much harder to achieve than a maximum of 2 PIF per 1 ECC block in a LiteOn scan. I'd say the closest equivalents are 2 PIF for 1 ECC scanning and 8 PIF for 8 ECC scanning.

    Just an observation, and you're free to disregard my opinion entirely.

    I agree totaly with you, we can start with more relaxed requirements.
    Intentionally I didn't mention any standard canning speed* for this thread.

    But, for comparison reasons it would be better to add 8x scanning speed to requirements and change max BenQ value to 6.

    Moderators please add/change as follow;
    * Standard scanning speed; 8x
    - max PIF value for BenQ scans = 6

    (* Note, BenQ's are also able to read per 1ECC block when scanning at 4x speed.)

    12x burning speed is unachievable on my old computer guess i'm out of the competition

    I don't see much sense in doing a TRT on a Samsung drive. The graph will be perfectly smooth even on a disc that other drives already reject

    I'm sure we have the freedom to choose a different TRT drive [should we have another drive that we want to use], correct? 'Cause I really have to agree with that statement. I'd especially think those among us that have an Optiarc/NEC would like to show whether or not their drive can read it. [I, personally, will have to pull out my old Pio DVD ROM that only reads even the best media at 2x, and use either my BenQ or 1693S--since they are MY worst readers . I think my laptop Sammy might also be a little picky ].

    Great thread, nice one Pinto2

    Only...I have a Samsung but I'm not a gentleman - maybe I could borrow the "equipment" from one of you guys?

    Standard scanning speed = 8x. Hmm, I won't be scanning on my newest Litey then. I'll hook up one of the older ones externally.

    Also using an Optiarc for my TRTs.

    Hehe, thankyou

    Anyway, I'll get a scan or two up when I've got the other machine (with the Sammy) plugged in. I'm sure I can get one or two reasonably good ones.

    Dont'e mean to highjack this thread, but is 8x really a good scanning speed with these drives? I tried scanning a disc or two with a Lite-On 1633 and then with the Samsung at 4x and 8x....

    The 4x scan was a LOT (and I mean a LOT) closer to the Lite-On. PI was at pretty much the same levels, and PIE was near identical. The samsung did always report a couple more PIEs that the lite-on at 4x, but barely, and the errors were in the same areas on the disc.

    With 8X scanning on my S183L i am scanning at 1.06.

    Here's 4X scan of same disc and still 1.06.

    If i use my S183L for scanning which i do not i still would scan at 8X.

    Thanks Arachne, sorry for wording "gentlemen", ofcourse all members are welcome to post here.

    @rolling56, I think you missed requirements; Maximum PI Error value; 20, total PIE max. 20.000.
    But then, most probably you just wanted to compare 8 and 4x scanning.

    @zhadoom, 8x scan speed please. At 4x speed almost all my burns can qualify in here (when scanning with Samsung or Liteys).

    Looking forward to an 18x Sammy getting in here, meeting all the guidelines.

    My Sammy can't get under 20,000 PIE total, but can do the max of 20 PIE/ECC block and 2 PIF/ECC block. I know it can do under 40,000 total with the Sammy itself, and my Litey got 25,000 with its burns scanned on the Sammy, but have yet to see even 4x scans on either drive get below that. Might need better media [see below for what I have].

    CMC MAG M01--3 separate brands of it, TTH02, CMC MAG AM3, SONYD21, RICOHJPN R03, ProdiscF02. 12x and 16x speeds, even with CMC media at the MCC-equivalent strategies, TTH02 at TYG03--a strat that works very well--, and SONYD21 at DAXONAZ3

    I hope everyone should be able to burn at least at 12x... even our 9 years old home network P2-266MHz computer can burn at 8x...

    MID: YUDEN000-T02 (printable)
    Type: DVD+R 8x rated
    Burned with: CD DVD Speed 4.7.5.0
    Burned as: Create Disc /burn image
    Burned at: 12x speed
    Burntime: 7:19 (preburn calibration 16 seconds)
    Drive/Firmware: SH-S203B /SB00_stock
    Scanned with: BenQ DW1650.

    Very nice and even jitter, much better then Liteys ever can show up.
    Edit. Just like to let ya' know how Litey sees the jitter, interesting jitter jump out of the blue at 2.3GB.

    ...all I did was use ImgBurn instead of CD-DVD Speed for burning and I get this?

    TDK Color 16x DVD-R
    TTH02 Made In Taiwan
    Burned at 16x with ImgBurn
    Burn time: 6:01 [4411 MB Image file]
    Quality score=95, PIE total=16937, PIE max=10, PIF total=426, and PIF max=2

    8x scan on my Sammy and 16x TRT on my Litey [as its 16x readback is questionable]. I withdraw all complaints about my media and drives.

    Great burn zebadee.
    Don't think at 8x scan will change QS that much, but anyway that's the requirement.

    This is amazing. 8x rated media burned at 20x making into Hall of Fame.

    MID: YUDEN000-T02 (TG001125)
    Type: DVD+R 8x rated (max 12x in SB01)
    Burned with: CD DVD Speed 4.7.5.0
    Burned as: Create Data Disc
    Burned at: 20x speed
    Burntime: 4:38 (preburn calibration 20 seconds)
    Drive/Firmware: S203B /SB01_test

    At default drive burns this media in ~7:20 using CAV. Never though a 20x burn would make it into HoF. My thanks to member making this possible.

    At default drive burns this media in ~7:20 using CAV. Never though a 20x burn would make it into HoF. My thanks to member making this possible.
    Is this a test T02@T03 strategy ?
