Yeah I'd like to know this as well. I haven't been able to find any information that tells me the exact differences. From what I've found it looks like the difference is lightscribe support for one of them, is that the whole difference or is there anything else different about these two models?

Nope now I actually just found information that suggests that the lightscribe version is the SH-S203P and N models.. *sigh*

The availability of the 203B is excellent here in Germany

Thanks for pointing me to the faq. That helped. It still doesn't say if there are any difference between the B and D model. Neither does it mention the P model of the 203. Any input on those?
Can I buy a D model and expect it to perform just as well as the B?

Hi,I assume, you have also read the specs sheet that is attached. 203D has lower DVD+R DL write speeds.
I think, the D should be similar to the B. The new P (haven't yet looked into the specs) might be the Lightscribe version of the D.

Michael, I'm looking at the pdf spec sheet and it lists the +R9 write speed as 16x for both 203B and 203D. Only difference I see is the -R9 read speed as it's 16x for 203B and 12x for 203D.

WTH, there's another new model now, S203P, w/LS. It has some TruDirect writing capabilities.

Ok since the B looks pretty scarce here in Norway right now I'm gonna go for the D version then. Hopefully it's as good as the B sounds like. I've only been able to find white B models in stock and white is soo 90's

Thanks alot for your patient replies. I have to admit I looked long and hard at that pdf and still didn't notice that one difference between the B and D.

It's probably the same except instead of releasing new firmware for the 203B for free they just released a new model.

Change of suppliers for some/one of the parts I would think due to either price or availability.

Anyway, I just got a 203D. Only installed it a short time ago, but it was able to burn a Ritek DVD+R DL that failed on the second layer in my other drives. Quality was 91/Class 4.
