Samsung Writer Discuss, Patch Utility for Samsung MTK based DVD Writers v3.4.9 <-- ***NEW*** at CD and DVD Writers forum; I am a pretty much noob at this with a shiny new 203n and was wondering exactly what all these patches do and if I should apply them. I mean are they really just for advanced users or would they help me as someone looking to backup his dvd collection.

What these patches do, is described in the first post of this thread.
Unless you think you badly need one of those features given by the patches, you can stick with stock firmware. Also, please note that using a patched firmware will void your warranty.

You can always unpatch it by reinstalling the stock firmware, right?

I have a SH-S203N. I downloaded the firmware from Samsung but I get an exe file, not the bin file. How do I extract the bin file?

Figured it out... should have read the entire thread before posting!

I dont know if its just me but i can not access the site to download the patch...(couple days for me now)

Anyone mind throwing it up on a temp file share site so peeps can grab it while the rpc1 domain is down?

.....im looking for the patcher.. not prepatched firmware. and what you listed doesnt even have one for me on the mirror site =/ .. s203N ..

I would think that theres gotta be 1 person who has the patcher and spend 2min on a file site to help somone in need...

Thing is, member _chef_ is also administrator at rpc1.org where this utility resides linked, and he seems to be kinda bussy (or more correct; irritated) at the moment.
We all know rpc1.org IS down.

Thanks CodeKing for your help I am now auto bitsett and region free on my sammy 203n drive. Since the RPC1.org is down anyone needing this drives patch let me know via PM and I'll hook you up with what I use as it has it all in my firmware thanks to CK.

Does anyone know if you can revert back to stock firmware or not. I just bought the Sammy SH- 203N and I really like having auto bitsetting. But if I want to revert back to stock firmware, can I?

I have on the SH-S203B a couple of times with the FB FR to stock & vice versa. Somebody might correct me here, but if you want to go back a version, I think I remember that you would have to for example, flash from say SB03 patched to SB03 stock & then flash back.
