No, that should do it for now, thanks. It will reach 16x on an 8GB disc. Looks like this drive is an excellent reader.

I'll see if I can find the 12x PCAV glitch...

    Hello,

I am looking for a region free firmware for my Samsung SH-203D drive. Samsung's site shows SH-203P's firmware when searching for SH-203D's one:
    http://www.samsung.com/in/support/do...ia_cd=05050500

Does that mean that SH-203P's firmware works on SH-203D too? It was said here that those two drives don't have much difference, but I want to be sure.

Some people here have flashed their SH-203D with patched region free firmwares. If the SH-203P firmware indeed is compatible with SH-203D, does this apply to the new SB01 version here too?
    http://www.samsungodd.com/eng/Firmwa...FWDownload.asp

And has anyone tried the new SB01 (preferably patched) on their SH-203D drive yet?

    Thanks

Hmmmm... well, just to see I just did the same thing to the SH-S203N... same thing...???
If I put the stock firmware in and set the fast burn, fast read, RPC1, & bitsetting... the transcoding times were nearly 10 minutes for the National Treasure 2, then I loaded the S203N FBFR patched firmware and only added the RPC1 & bitsetting patches... the resulting firmware ripped that same DVD in 8:07....

Not sure what to say about it. This same thing happened with both the S203B and the S203N?????

But thanks since I was able to add the RPC1 patch and they both now auto-bitset. Also a big thanks for it doing a fantastic job on the S183L... on the first try...

yep it is a snappy fast reader. Now if CK can fix the 12x PCAV glitch it will be good to go

    Bitsetting and RPC1 works.

MBK, you don't mention the remove riplock patch. Are you using this? If the two firmwares you are using compare the same, I can't understand why there should be any difference in the way the drive rips between the two.

Thanks Bob. I'll see what I can find, when I have time today. This may be a hard one to fix without having a drive to do some trial and error testing.

Just an FYI. The current version of the Patch Utility v3.0.1 has an issue with the 12x PCAV patch for 22x drives. The CAV RPM is incorrect and it may also have a strange affect on 10x DL burning. I'd suggest not using this patch with the S223F/S223Q until the next release. All other patches seem fine and there is no known issue with 18x and 20x drives.

I didn't use the remove riplock patch on neither. I did it both with it checked and unchecked initially with the 203B stock firmware using the utility, and when it actually decreased the speed performance compared to the FBFR patched firmware that I already had on that S203B, I reflashed back to the FBFR firmware and the speed was faster once again.... that's when I decided to load the FBFR firmware into the Utility and only add the RPC1 & bitsetting patches... and the resulting firmware has been superb.

With the S203N, I never checked the remove riplock tab when I loaded the stock firmware.... and also did not when loading the FBFR firmware for that drive into the utility.

It's not a big deal to me since the Utility did a perfect job in adding the RPC1 & Auto-Bitsetting to both drives, but just thought you might want to know to see if you got similar performance results as well.

Thanks for the links. But as the files are executables, is there a way to get the firmware as a .bin file so I can patch it to region free? And will the patcher work with the new SB01 version too?

You can extract the .bin file with WinRAR.

    I prefer 7-zip, since it's free software.
The archive is btw a sfx ZIP archive, so any recent ZIP capable software should be able to handle it properly (apart from Windows integrated zip tool of course).

I don't understand what you meant, but I ran the .exe and the .bin popped out from that. So I patched it and now I have a region free drive. Thanks anyway.

    @C0deKing

Thanks so much for this outstanding utility. It was an simple task to patch the SB01 firmware for my 203B. I now enjoy auto bitsetting and my drive is region free...

Next chance I get, I'll try to tweak some speeds.
Thanks again, really appreciate your time and effort.

C0deKing, thank you for your great work.

I have a new SH-S203B. Does your patcher 3.0.1 work with the SB04 firmware? Is SB04 recommended for this drive or is SB01 the best?

This is my first new drive in years, I'm still using old NECs in my other machines. I'm looking for the best clean, quality burns, region-free, rip-lock and booktype setting with this new SH-S203B.

I use TY single-layer and Verbatim dual-layer media.

Thanks for your help and advice.
