Okay. then you have successfully ruled out any Windows related problem

I already mentioned such problems are not firmware related (unless you flashed some firmware which was not intended for this drive). It's a hardware problem. With some luck, it is only a bad IDE cable which can be replaced easily and inexpensive. The other possibility is a mainboard going south or the drive is dead.

I have just bought a SH-B083 but the patch utility doesn't work on it.

Any hint to unlock speed and so with this drive?

    Any news?

One thing I'm unclear on, it the RPC1 option actual RPC1 (aggro with later Windows versions), or is it one of the other ways to de-region?

Beginning to think maybe the Samsung was a mistake (versus Liteon), but it was cheap and lightscribe.

    Hi,

I am aware of two methods to make a drive region free:
    1. RPC1 firmware which is the most common. Seems as if some modern applications on Win7 systems don't like such drives.
    2. RPC Autoreset: Available for many Renesas based LG drives and a couple of Optiarcs. The drive is still RPC2, but the region is reset anytime the system is rebooted.

Plus there are some software methods like AnyDVD etc.

And on top of that, it is possible to make a LiteOn completely RPC1 or do a vendor reset with stock firmware.
(If I remember correctly, there is a vendor reset software for older NEC/Optiarc too.)

Is this working ok with newer "TruDirect" firmwares?

Recognizes the firmware and offers appropriate options, but is the result ok, don't want to risk a brick.

    @codeking

Is their likely to be a patch utility for the new SH-Bxxxx range of BD combo drives this year?
Is there anything I can do to help with this process? I posted my original query here.

ala42 explained that for MCSE; there's currently only simple read-only media list support for SH-Bxxxx drives.
Apparently the drives use a new chipset using a ARM CPU core, so the initial effort needed to support them is high.
And currently ala has no time to develop support for it.

Thanks for the offer, but sorry, I won't be doing any more patches for new drives.

However, I may release patches for new firmware versions of drives I have already patched, that aren't supported by the patch utility.

No worries C0deKing, thanks for explaining where your priorities are ATM.
Tis a shame Samsung chose to move to an entirely new Chipset/CPU.
I guess their motivation may have been (in part) to stop these sort of 3rd party tweaks.
Seems I've no choice but to get the CH10LS20, instead of the faster (on paper) SH-B123A.

    Thanks again.

I will have a look, but I cannot promise anything, as it appears to be using the same chipset as the LiteOn iHAS124B and some very new firmware.

First, thanks for all of your previous work. I have another Sammy drive from about 4 years ago with similar specs, so when the SH-222AL was on sale, I figured it would be easy to setup. Please let me know if there is an easy way to set this drive up like my SH-S203N. Thanks!

I'm trying to patch 222AB but I receive an error stating, 1004 Wrong firmware file! Must be an 18x, 20x, or 22x Samsung Firmware file.

I downloaded the firmware file directly from samsungodd.com and extracted the .bin file through winrar. Is there something I'm missing here?

I just bought the Samsung SH-222AL / SBSB Firmware SB01 and I am irritated that I can't hack it now. I bought expecting I could hack it. Not only does the Patch Utility tool not support it, but I can't find that firmware online either. Only SB00 is posted on the Samsung website. DAMN!

I'm trying to use this program to make my Samsung SE-S084F USB DVD-RW drive region free. I'm not sure if this drive is MTK based or not so, perhaps that's the problem (if so, if someone could confirm, that'd be great).

I've downloaded the latest firmware from the Samsung website and extracted the bin file using 7zip. When I load it in the patch utility though, I get an error message saying "Access violation at address 0040243A in module 'Patch_Utility_Samsung.exe'. Read of address 01A14000."

Anyone know if there's anything I can do to get this to work or, anywhere else I can find RPC1 firmware for this drive? Any help much appreciated.

    Hi and Welcome!

The Patch Utility does not support slim drives well (as written in the FAQ), so you might try Mediacode Speed Edit (mcse).

Thanks. I've tried MCSE but, it doesn't seem to work (though there's no error message). My drive isn't listed as supported so, I guess that's that's the problem but, I've posted in the MCSE thread to check.

Yes, the drive seems to be unsupported then. Perhaps it has even a chipset that cannot been patched at all.
