Here's a new version of the Samsung Patch Utility that should stop the false virus checker report:
http://codeguys.rpc1.org/patchers/Pa...sung-3.4.2.rar

v3.4.3 & v3.4.4 are already ready for the next false report made about this tool, by you know who. Just report in this thread when v3.4.2 is falsely detected and I'll release the next version.

Hey guys,

I'm trying to upgrade the firmware on my samsung se-204s (TS00 firmware) to a patched TS02 via the Patch Utility but the Samsung flasher program tells me the firmware is incompatible with my drive. Does that sound right? I tried applying a patched (by Patch Utility) TS02 firmware to it via the official samsung flasher.

Here's a little background: I got the drive yesterday and out of the box it had TS01 firmware. I wanted to use MCSE (I didn't know about this Patch Utility program until after) and I saw MCSE only supported my drive with the TS00 firmware. So i flashed the drive to the TS00 firmware (downloaded the TS00 from samsungodd.com) and then tried to use MCSE but all the options were greyed out when I loaded the firmware to patch.

So now I have the TS00 firmware on the se-204s drive and I'm wondering how I can get all the advantages from patching it to the latest (modified) firmware. Can you not go from TS00 to TS02 (I can't find TS01 anywhere for my drive). I checked off all the options in Patch Utility -- are some of those not meant for my drive and causing the 'invalid firmware' message?

Just wanted to say the issues with flashing the firmware stemmed from me trying to do so on a Mac through Parallels (the OEM code was not being reported correctly). I booted into Windows natively (via boot camp) and was able to patch the TS02 firmware and the flash the drive as the OEM code was being correctly reported as TS. It works great under both Windows and Mac (although I didn't have to install any drivers for it to work on my Mac).

Thanks for such a great patching program!!

Check this post out http://club.cdfreaks.com/f105/patch-...ml#post2112752

basically sfdnwin.exe doesn't work for some drives, only the tsdnwin.exe flasher, which you get from unpacking the firmware update exe file with 7-zip(http://club.cdfreaks.com/f105/mini-f...7/#post1803671 )or other utility

funny thing is that zone alarm security suite uses a kaspersky created scanner but doesn't flag the patching utility as a trojan, I wonder what else got left out in the mix...

anyone have any thoughts on this?

Also I reported awhile ago( see posts http://club.cdfreaks.com/f116/legal-234838/andhttp://club.cdfreaks.com/f116/legal-234838/) that zone alarm was stopping internet access while transitioning from riping to burning, well recently they released version 8 of ZAISS and the alert now only flags a local network attempt to write the log file(since I have access blocked for dvdfab) apparently the alerts were erronous, dvdfab was not making internet access, although the alert gave dns addresses which were the target of the attempt; these would always change (the DNS addresses), So anyway now I am content that dvdfab IS NOT trying to access the internet to export info. I have check for update unmarked - so it was never an attempt to update. All of you who rebuked me then were right - I was Paranoid soto you all...

COdeKing rules!

Just wondering if there will be support for the other new 22X drives like the SH-S222A/L EIDE drives? I know that these just came out a short time ago and see that the Patch Utility does not support their firmware yet. MCSE will apply the RPC1 patch without issue but it will only do that.

Thanks again for sush a great utility!

Thanks for the quick response COdeKing!

I just ran the latest rev. on my SH-S222L drive and it workes just fine now. Info tool shows that the firmware revisions took effect. I did some test rips and burns and there were no errors reported. I will be testing the burns on several stand alone devices to test compatibility and get back to the group with the results.

Thanks again for such a great utility!

I have a question about removing the riplock:

It works very well with this patch, however it also let DVD's play at high spinning speed. Is there a possibility to remove the riplock and let DVD's play silently?

I have a SH-S223F, my former burner a Lite-On A4p could rip fast and play very silent without a tweaked firmware.

shastar, welcome to cdfreaks.

I checked S224 at the same time as I did S222. It should work with your firmware.

Coyote76, welcome to cdfreaks.

A simple solution to this is to have a second drive for playing DVDs.

I have tested the burns from my SL-S222L that I had run the Patch Utility on in several stand alone players. All ran fine except for one DVD+R DL that would not play in an old player. The player in question was built long BEFORE DVD+R DL recordable disks even existed so that was kind of expected. The player tried its best and did play the first layer just fine but when it switched to the second layer it started dropping out video and audio then quit. The same disk does play just fine in newer players though.

I tested to extract the s224 firmware..but there is no bin fil in that package..just these files:

.data
.rdata
.rsrc
.text

I extracted s222 firmware, and there i find a bin fil...Thanks for the info...Now im going to test to flash s222 to my s224 and see if it works...i going to let you now.....

I have tested to flash my s224 with s222 and s223 with no luck..it seems not working... I get:

This Firmware is not compatible
with the selected drive.

I have tested the orginal and patched ones with same result....

---------------------------------------

Update....
Samsung have updated the firmware file today, and now there is a bin file in the package..so i tested Patch_Utility_Samsung-3.4.3 with S224Q firmware and patched it......
I can comfirm that Patch Utility 3.4.3 works great with SH-S224Q..........

Thanks for the great tool.....Now im happy...

shastar, you are getting that error message because the firmware is not the correct firmware for your model of drive. You have to override the flashers safety protection to allow a model crossflash, which is a very dangerous thing to do.

BitDefender 2009 just marked v3.4.3 as "Trojan.Generic.1229634" for me. Assuming it's a false positive based on what little I've read here, but just thought I'd let you know.

*edit* It was clean with Trend Micro's Housecall free scan, although I didn't unpack it... assumed it scanned archives like BitDefender does.

You can use the flasher in this post to flash the patched firmware to a 223F:
