The first thing I would do is update your firmware to US06 from www.samsungodd.com, this drive is very problematic writing DVD-R media, especially with those earlier versions. I wouldn't recommend using DVD-R media on this drive regardless, quality is pretty much universally not good. It burns DVD+R media with codes CMC E01, Daxon AZ2, Prodisc R03, Prodisc R04, and TY T02 quite nicely in my testing with firmware US06.
