I have a new Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop which came with the TSSTCorp DVD+RW TS-L532B DVD Writer - Firmware DE03.

This drive doesn't seem to be referred to elsewhere and is giving me problems. Specifically, I have burnt a selection of DVD copies using CloneDVD to MCC004 and TYG02 media at 8x speed which either fail in the drive or are unreadable when played back in other DVD readers.

I note that there is a large thread with similar theme covering the L532A drive and can only assume that they are from the same family. I was hoping that I may be able to resolve the problem by upgrading firmware. However, Samsung do not support this drive with new firmware and the drive isn't even listed on the Dell support pages. Can anyone direct me to an improved firmware for this drive and how to upgrade the firmware? Is this drive the same as the L532A?

I found the user guide for this drive on the dell website (the Japanese one at least) http://supportapj.dell.com/support/e...0/en/index.htm

Still having problems though...

I have a similar problem. I own the dell inspiron 6000 and my TSSTcorp TS-L532B DVD+-RW Drive is not able to read dual layer DVD-9 DVD-Video disc. This DVD however works perfect on my external Benq DVD-Writer driver. I'm not sure if this is a firmware problem or is it because my drive doesn't support dual layer discs at all. Anyone can help me out?

Thanks in advance,

Rajen

Okay, I’ve been searching the web for days looking for info on this drive as I’ve had DVD burning/reading issues as well. There is no mention of TS-L532B on TSST’s website, or Samsungs website. I downloaded the Samsung firmware update program hoping that there was an update that was not listed on the site, but nothing. Before calling Dell and suffering their tech support torture I decided to download Nero 7.0 thinking that it could be a conflict between the drive and the Sonic bundled software. Viola! Imagine that, a perfectly burned DVD-R. I wonder if I can get Dell to pay for all the time I’ve wasted trying to get this damn thing to work… Yeah, I won’t hold my breath.

Update.

The drive is the same as the L532A but with specific Dell firmware. Consequently, until someone makes a firmware update program for the drive, you can only use Dell firmware. As I noted above, the burn quality from 16x media was poor even on high quality media. The solution appears to be to use only 8x media. I don't believe the problem is Sonic or resolved by using Nero - I had zapped the Dell hard drive and never installed Sonic - only Nero.

As I have now standardized on using 16x media, I took a decision to swap out the L532 drive for an NEC. This better suits my needs and stops me from having future firmware problems.

Firmwares for L532A can be found here:

http://hijacker.rpc1.org/toshiba/ind...path=TS-L532A/

But you have to be 100% sure it's same hardware.

I tryed to flash my TS-L532B DE03 DVD-WRITER with L532A, but software do not reconize my hardware.
But i have some problems with my TS-L532B.
I have try some burn software like nero 6 and 7 alcohol 120%, and i can't burn CD, and when i burn DVD's, it takes about 1 hour. at 8x Speed with verbatim DVD-R..
if anyone can give to me a tool to change version information of my DVD-Writer, to change B to A, i can try on mine.
best regards

DVD Burner:
TS-L532B with ibm enclosure

Problem:
1. not working in other computers (usually in XP OS) because its working fine in win2000 OS

2. afraid of upgrading firmware, this might worsen the problem

3. do not know what to do?

Thanks

cnumanako, your problem is unlikely to be the TS-L532B or firmware if it is working under win2000. Writers are not OS specific. The problem is more likely related to your enclosure and you may need to install software onto XP in order to get your enclosure recognised. Search for your enclosure on the IBM site and see if there are any drivers you can download for XP.

Indiano, as I said "The drive is the same as the L532A but with specific Dell firmware. Consequently, until someone makes a firmware update program for the drive, you can only use Dell firmware."

what manual? If it is referring to the writer, it is simply wrong - writers are not OS specific.

are you referring to the drivers? Indeed these are only for Win98, because the drivers for external enclosures are already part of more recent Windows versions like ME, 2000, XP. Trying to install the Win98 drivers provided with the enclosure might mess up your system.

I've used the TSST firmware flasher SFDNWIN.EXE to update the firmware for my Dell B120 drive from DE01 to DE05. I understand that you can also use SFDNWIN.EXE

All you need then is compatable firmware

Yes, but the only compatible firmware that can be flashed is from Dell itself. DE05 is the latest version. We need someone with the skills to crack the flash tool to allow other firmware to be installed.

"to crack" is not an appropriate word here.

Well, I guess if you need unscrambled firmware for something in particular. I thought this thread was on how to update the stock firmware for the Dell.

I just wanted to share what I know since Dell doesn't want you updating thier firmware. They don't provide a firmware flasher, they don't even provide the firmware. You have to hunt for it all; good luck.

I am using th firmware that was on my drive when I bought the laptop DE03. I succesfully used Verbatim MCC 004 dvd's at 8X, takes about 10min to write them.
Now I burned a DL MKM 001 disc also with succes. Burned at 4X, disc is actually 2.4X rated.

Hello to all! First of all sorry my poor English e my little knowledge in this forum. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 9300, with a DVDRW optical drive model TSSTCorp DVD+-RW TS-L532B, that stoped. When i run the Dell Diagnostics the following code is show: Error Code 0F00:286E (Optical Drive BIST -- OPU test failed). I'm live in Rio de Janeiro/Brazil and my american cousin give the laptop to me (it was shopped on line, by her, in dell.com). Here in Brazil, after a lot of contacts with the Dell Support Phone Number, they say that the laptop was not in local coverage warranty (my model, Inspiron 9300, is not sell in Brazil), and they not to do nothing (just if i export the laptop to Dell USA and bla bla bla...). Anybody understand what i say ? Can help me? My optical drive stopped and i like the warranty coverage !!! Regards and thank U.

I just wanted to post an update on this. I contact Dell chat based support. Suprisingly the instructions they gave me fixed the issues. I didn't think it would but they did. The instructions are as follows:
NOTE: INVOLVES EDITTING THE REGISTRY!!! IF YOU DON'T TRUST YOURSELF WITH THIS, THEN GET SOMEONE WHO YOU DO TRUST!!!
========================================================
"Click the Start button, click Run."
"In the Open box, type Regedit, and then click OK."
"Click the plus sign (+) next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
"Click the plus sign (+) next to SYSTEM."
"I already tried enabling it"
"Click the plus sign (+) next to CurrentControlSet."
"Click the plus sign (+) next to Control."
"Click the plus sign (+) next to Class."
"Click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}."
"On the right hand side of the window, click UpperFilters."
"Click Edit on the menu bar."
"Click Delete, and then click OK."
"On the right-hand side of the window, click LowerFilters."
10/10/2006 10:25:41PM Agent (Mubeena_0195946): "Click Edit on the menu bar."
"Click Delete, and then click OK."
"Click File, and then click Exit."
"Restart the computer normally."
====================================================

Anyways, these instructions fixed the issue. Once I rebooted, the drive acted normal again.

One quick post for newbies to the registry by the way. Hit the "F3" key on your keyboard and a search box will come up. Copy and paste that long string (CLSID) that starts with 4d36.... into the box and click Find or OK. That is alot easier than looking for it. Do that before ever actually diving into the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE tree.

I've read what you've written. (sorry for my so bad english) I've searched for the keys, but I can't find one : "Upperfilters". There's just the "Lowerfilter". So, have I to delete the second one ?
