| Nice fast results with this media too, burn time was 5:35. Fuji branded DVD+R 16x. Burned a full minute faster than on my PX-716A 1.09, with lower jitter and half the PIE rate. Results are very similar to my 4167B DL12. Highly recommended combination for this drive. The burn time was within 5 secs, PIE rate was actually lower and jitter was within 1%. Nice work Samsung!

| I'd sure like to know whether this is a good drive for burning TY 8x -R's... The CDF review made this drive look quite good, and the first few scans of this thread looked great too. But then there was a flood of contradictory scans leading to a debate of which scan drive brand and associated software was the most reliable. Was going to go for the LG 4167 until I read about the weak filter capacitor issue; and the NEC ND-3500, except there is no real review for it -- only speculation based on the 4550 etc., which didn't get excellent writes w/TY -R's. So at this point, the SH-W162 series looks pretty good, especially since the next build of the NEC is being released now (4570) -- which leaves the 3550 dead in the water with no liklihood of a firmware update... |

| Here are another two: Memorex DVD-R 16x Burn speed 12x Primedisc DVD+R 2.4x Burn speed 2.4x (Very bad result! BenQ 1620 and LG 4167B burned same discs much better...) Hovewer, transfer rate test on my DVD-ROM ASUS E616A is almost perfect..... Did Samsung show the real things in quality scanning? |

| What I found interesting with this burner is its great ability to read badly scratched/damaged discs. I had 3 pressed DVD-ROM discs which failed to rip with my other 3 active writers (BenQ DW1640, DW1650 and LG GSA-4167B), and which also had failed with two of the Liteons that I previously owned (1693 and 1635) but the Samsung managed to rip all three and with a decent speed too...

| i guess what nikhil24 actually refers to is the buffer going down for a brief moment as the drive performes WOPC... (the burn is NOT taking longer because of that) just as C0deKing said on page 2: "Hmm, interesting WOPC algorithm. Seems to recalibrate when it's not needed and stops when it is. :s ... But it's good to see the drive does use WOPC. I think this drive has potential if they spend some more time fine tuning the firmware." feel free to correct me if i'm wrong |
