I have yet to find a software that will backup dvd movies (I have a 4 year old and only let her use copies of her movies). I need the bitsetting to change booktype to dvd-rom because her player is old and does not recognize +r. I currently own about 100 pieces of +r media so would prefer not to change to -r.

I have tried the following firmwares:
SB03, cdfreaks SB03, and SB04

The results I have found are as follows:

DVD fab does not correctly change the booktype tried the last 5 version (post in that forum with details)

Called samsung directly and they have no plans to modify the firmware to autobitset. They also have no utility that will bitset for us.

Roxio ez-media creator does not bitset correctly either.

ImageBurn works correctly but it seems you have to set the booktype before each burn with the dvd already in the drive.

I noticed code editor recently was was updated to now support swap write strats with the firmware I have does this mean someone can now hack the firmware to auto bitset? I had read the main problem to date was no one could figure out the checksum issue thus modifying the firmware was not possible does this mean it now is?

Ok to sum it all up basically what i am after is a dvd backup software that will backup a dvd, movie only ( as i use single layer dvd +r) and be able to change the bitset/booktype to dvdrom. This way my 4 year old can trash the backup and when it no longer plays I can simply backup another from the original that sits on the shelf.

Hi,

I haven't had any issues with my SH-S182D (same drive without Lightscrive) concerning bitsetting, as this drive did this on its own.
You may try to author the DVD disc with your favourite software and burn the DVD to disc with the copy of Nero that came with the drive. Make sure that bitsetting is set to "Automatic" there.
