I tried to burn a twice a DVD+R DL with Nero Linux 3 (almost 8GB of data) and got a strange error. First I thought the media was crappy but after the two unsuccessfully attempts I used the built-in Nautilus burning application and everything went flawless in 4X speed.
Nero Linux 3 detected the correct media format but the speed wasn’t ok. It was a 8X certified disc but Nero detected as a 2.4X media.
Here is the error Log it generated.

Seems to be a known issue with the DVR-111. Basically Nero Linux (and Nero Windows) does not write anything because it is not able to send to the device the first layer size.

Regarding the speed problem, Nero internally try to setup the speed list by querying the media for its capable speeds and the drive itself. After that the list will contain only the speed that are supported by both device and medium. 2.4x is the default speed for DVD+R DL.

But, as far as I see, your device is an internal IDE one, configured as primary slave. This is generally bad for a burner, so you should better put it as master device.

Thanks Mathf,

Well, I have a DVR-105 as my primary master unit and the DVR-111D as my primary slave unit and I have no issue at all burning with them in this configuration, regarding this DVD+R DL problem with the 111 unit.

Is there any chance to have this issue fixed in Nero Linux?

This is IMHO _not_ a problem of Nero Linux itself. The fact that the nautilus cd-burner plugin is working fine is that it does not send the SEND DISC STRUCTURE SCSI command to inform the drive when to make the layer break.

I really think that the problem is coming from the hardware. As I mentioned in a post above, some drives are not working correctly if they are connected as slave on the IDE bus.
Also check your IDE cable. You should use a 80pins IDE cable for maximum compatiblity.

Well, I changed the drive to MASTER position and I'm already using a 80pins IDE cable, but I got the same problem... Only 2.4X speed in Write Speed drop box and an error if I proceed with the burning process...
Is there any chance to make Nero Linux to deal with this recording unit?

Some updates. We try to reproduce your bug, but we were not able to. I explain...

According to the log you provided, you are using a 2.6.15 kernel that - as far as I guess - comes from an Ubuntu Dapper Drake, so we installed this Ubuntu on one of our test machines.
After that, we also installed the web demo of Nero Linux 3 (the exact same package you have on the web), and took a DVR-111 (apparently not D, but similar).

-> After we have inserted a DVD+R DL inside, it was correctly recognized, and 8x was available. (Screenshots are attached...)
...and no problem burning a DVD+R DL at 4, 6 and 8x.

So I now suspect your medium that could be the problem...
