| I've burnt dv files to two Blu-ray disks with Nero Linux 3.5.1 on openSUSE 10.3 on a HP Compac 8710w mobil workstation with a Matshita BD-MLT UJ-210S recorder. 1) BD-RE DL 14GB first test. UDF Automatic settings The burnt disk mounts ok and the dv files can be read and played from Gnome/Nautilus/players 2) BD-R DL 47 GB full disk as backup for dv files, UDF Automatic Successful burning message afterwards However, this disk can't be mounted and the attached error message box is displayed Tried "chmod 777 /dev/sr0" but still the same error. Is there a bug in the disk burning, or other reason? I won't try a new costly BD-R disk again, before knowing what's wrong here |

| A follow up question: Is there any difference with regards to UDF/readers between mounting/reading BD-RE and BD-R disks? If I test to burn once more, I'll use a BD-RE with the same file content as on the umountable BD-R. |
| There are many differences regarding the UDF revision that are used for BD, regarding the fact that you are burning a multisession disc or not. Normally, if you keep writing single-session discs ('No Multisession' set in the the compilation properties), Linux should be able to mount the disc. |
| By the way, have you already try to mount the disc manually as root? mount -t udf /dev/sr0 /mnt ? If you also get some errors there, have a look in the logfiles (/var/log/messages normally, or the last lines of the 'dmesg' command) and check what was wrong. |
| Manual mount as root makes no difference. What does the messages "UDF-fs: minUDFReadRev=250 (max is 201)" mean? Here are the command line outputs: Code: # mount -t udf /dev/sr0 /mnt
mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sr0,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error

| I have also installed openSUSE 11 beta3, and the good news here is that the BD-R DL as well as BD-RE DL disks are mounted ok, and dv playback works ok. Was the error due to the UDF reader version? |
| From the logfile, it seems that you have burned you disc in UDF 2.50, which is not currently supported by most of the Linux kernels (I saw a patch somewhere on the net, but I will not garantee that it is stable). As you said before, you left the UDF settings to automatic. So that means that you started a multisession disc (at least leave the disc unfinalized). -> In such a case Nero Linux automatically selects UDF 2.50 as it needs to do what is called Pseudo-OverWrite (POW). |
| What I still think is somewhat remarkable is as mentioned that rewriteable BD-RE DL disks works ok on openSUSE 10.3. Also here I burnt the disk leaving the UDF settings to automatic. Is another, previous version of the UDF reader used to read this disk, maybe possibly multisessions isn't actual on rewriteable disks?
