SHW-160P6S in LVW-5005 Success!!!

I bought two SHW-160P6S's about 3 years ago, Black Friday at Staples. Saved one for the recorder. Naturally I couldn't find it so I cleaned the old drive first. It did better, but I couldn't read +RWs on computer

I looked again today and found the dive. I could not secure the drive well following the instructions in top post. The drive moved and the drawer would not open, as in last post. I ended up putting the white supports back in the front, and securing the drive with 16 gauge Cu wire from notches in supports to screws in DVD normal attachment points. The wires were twisted tight with a needle holder, but small pliers or hemostat would work as well. I dumped the metal shield since the DVD is already covered.

Biggest problem was drive dust cover, so it was replaced by a tape hinged flap of plastic to recuce dust inside. It's the clear material that everything is packaged in, cut slightly oversize in width and about an inch over in height. Part of the extra height was heated and bent up so it rides over the tray

Just checked a short recording of "live" HBO and HBO from a DVR and it is easily read on the computer. I updated drive firmware on computer befor install and there was no need to alter hacked firmware already on recorder.

I too left the front drive cover off on my 5045 drive upgrade. Can you post pics of the modification door you made for my reference?
