I will post some pics of fitting - if it works as a drive. Its in the list!!! my old drive is sort of working, takes 20 minutes to copy a HDD file. Very touchy on loading, i found the 832 and got it for £8 or so and its NEW!!!! so if all goes to plan, i wont be flashing etc... dont know how. With a bit of fiddling i may be able to use the exsisting cradle

Don't forget you need to connect to computer and play a DVD to set region, and it would be a good idea to update firmware as well to increase media compatibility. The Omni-Patcher could be used to bit set DVD+R to DVD-ROM book type to increase playback compatibility if you like.

Hi, just joined this forum. i am also looking for a replacement drive (for my 5055gdl). Mine has stopped recording on everything except DVD+RW and now the drive is stuck and will not eject. Also I am in UK and I am looking for a drive that can be fitted without to much "messing about". Message to Polegirl, have you fitted the drive you got yet? If you have does it work? Thanks for your time.

Drives in the http://club.cdfreaks.com/f102/replac...orders-207698/ thread should work as suggested in post #27 of this thread. Note there's a LiteOn SHM-165H6S at http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...sou05134271-20 as well as a link to a LiteOn DH-20A1P there. Note both these LiteOns would need to be cross flashed to corresponding Sony models to have normal fast forward function as replacement burners if that's important. Also note there's also a link to a LiteOn DH-20A4P there as well, but it can not be cross flashed to Sony because the 20A3P was the last LiteOn for which there's a Sony rebadge.

Has LiteOn seen this forum?
Are they ashamed?
Mine will be 3 years old in December & it's been back 4 times for the same problem - DVD player.
Each time the same fault appears, the player doesn't recognise any disk, even the cleaning disks.
Last time it came back, the tech guys told me to put a cleaning disk in every month - and it still fails

As it happens, I saw another brand in Comet, special offer, no box, instructions or remote for £50. New remote of ebay £10, instructions downloaded - sorted.
So, with nothing to lose (after all, the hard drive will work in a PC) I removed the lid.
Is it any wonder the DVD player packs up? It's really open to the elements in there.
Anyhoo, I whipped a DVD rewriter out of my old desktop, sat it on the machine & plugged it in - it worked perfectly. Door opens & closes via the button & remote, it plays, it records - it even fast forwards. It does everything the original does.
I had to strip the machine down, taking the plastic faceplate off & removing the metal frame.
I bent the opening slightly to allow the new drive to slide in from the front & I had to slice some of the plastic away to allow the drawer to operate.
I also had to remove the front of the DVD drive because there wasn't quite enough room.
The original drawer front was also cannibalised & stuck to the new DVD with stick pads (as spacers) so the machine now looks the business.
The drive is held in place with cable ties.
All in all, it took a couple of hours to complete & I now have a fully-functioning machine.
The Player just says DVR 107DB on it - which I believe is a pioneer unit.
