It's probably not a firmware issue since you have problems with 098 and 101 firmwares, but it might be a problem with the burner part of the recorder which you could replace if the 5005XS has IDE burner like the 5005 does. You could try replacing the burner if you have 1 of the burners compatible for replacement, or you could buy 1 if you don't happen to have 1 that's compatible. You may want to flash back to 098 hacked firmware to keep 3 hour mode and MV free before replacement if you decide to replace the burner. For compatible replacement burners see http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=207698.

A used LVW-5005XS so you did not invest much money; it may be time to cut you losses. Replacing the drive may cost as much as the recorder and you may lose some features. You may still get some use out of it as a DVD player. Look for a good deal on a Panasonic DMR-ES15.

Thanks for the recommendations. I would agree that this is probably not a firmware issue. I will look into the burner replacement.

Thanks CC Romeo. I will definetly look into this model. What are some of the features on this model. I definetly want the MV disable option if possible. I assume this one has it?

Thanks,
Guy

No MV disable option so I use a Sima CT200 when needed; best features: flex record option, best video quality a LP 4 hours of any recorder sold, option to start play with first title on the disc, Record to DL and DVD-RAM, S-Video Inputs and outputs, very quick start with DVD-RAM and DVD-R, remote can control some TVs; well made few problems reported.

If video quality is important buy one, VQ on the ES15 at 4 hours = The LiteOn a 2 hours, and flex record for movies under 2 hours is excellent. Few if any coasters. I hardly use my LiteOn LVW 5005s any more, just skip plans for DVD+RW somewhat of a pain on the Panny.

Nice price I paid $120 8 months ago. Interface not a simple as the one with LiteOn but you soon will get the hang of it, Stock up on DVD-Rs and a few DVD-RWs read the Panasonic Forum Read First:. For VHS to DVD a cheap Video Stablizer should work fine at LP speed. No firware upgrade needed! I'm sure you will love it.

A friend of mine just purchased a LVW-5005xs on my recommendation (see earlier posts) and I applied the 098 firmware patch for MV, Region free and extended record time and it worked fine. That's 2 for 2. Sorry pipsguy, it must be your unit.

I know you're the moderator and I wouldn't want to get banned by ticking you off but it's really annoying as crap trying to search for anything on one of the 15+ units included in your EVERY post. I would be ultra nice if you would remove it.

If I'm short I'm sorry it's just starting to get under my skin. Not to mention I've had to much to drink after backing into my mother-in-laws car. >:-( What a day.

Hi all,

I've just acquired an LVW-5005XS, also with the "serial number" 0102-4140-0102-M203 (100-010D), and I'm wondering if anyone in this thread still has the download for the right LNFA1098 firmware to make it MV-free. (I can't figure out if I should be using the .ES3 or .ES5 files that I have found, and the firmware links for the 5005XS are dead ends at this time.)

Also, I found it interesting that my unit says it's made in Dec 2005, but the drive in it - a Lineon DDW-806S - has a date of June 2007. The drive seems ok after I cleaned the lens and spindle, so I'm not replacing it right away, but I did do some drive tests (posted in the drive replacement thread.)

It appears the author of post #150 at http://club.cdfreaks.com/f102/liteon...39/index6.html had the file, and you might send PM to see if he still has it.

I have the LVW-5005X (not the XS). The only way to get around the MV is to change it to an ILO(I think it is R-04). I found it at the same place as the hack for the 5005.
