brian231 here is a new link, I don't know what happened to the original link and I can't fix it, not a mod anymore

I looked for it and finally found the file.

Does anyone have the firmware update for the LVW-5101 Recorder from LiteOn? I've tried Google and LiteOn support to no avail, didn't really use it that much and now it's recording shows and deleting them prior to finalizing.

You can find your firmware by going to http://us.liteonit.com/us/index.php?...pper&Itemid=75, select "Audio/Video," select "LVW-5101" and then select "Search."

Thanks for the response! The LiteOn website was one of the places that I tried to get this information, when I followed the link that you provided I found the same results again...Manuals and Firmware Update instructions. There were no links to the software itself and after requesting support they replied (in a very polite manner) that they no longer support that device nor do they have parts or information for the 5101. I came here next hoping that some pack rat might have the files stored somewhere. Tried Google too...to no avail!!

You can find a LOT of old stuff at the Internet Archive (www.archive.org). The archives list of the Lite-On recorders download page is at http://web.archive.org/web/*/www.lit...wnload_dvd.htm. It looks like the last (mostly) working archive is from March 3, 2006, and it does have the 5101 firmware. (There are later archives with some updated firmware but also some links that no longer work.)

That archive does not work for the 5001/5002/5005/5006 firmware, since those go through some more pages that check by SN.

You're absolutely right, and I was mistaken about the firmware being there. Manuals and Recommended Disc List is all that I find there.

However, you're firmware appears to be at the second link given by afecu if you click the Jan 05, 2006 link on that page and scroll down to LVW-5101 near bottom of page which is the same firmware as March 3, 2006 cited by afecu.

The link in post #177 of this thread is link to latest 5005 firmware. I found same firmware at a few other sites, but all required payment to access except 1 that was free; however, registration to the free site failed, and there was only automated response from the site with no contact where questions and problems could be addressed. I wish there were a better source for the 5xxx firmwares.

Edit: I stand corrected. The link in post #177 was to latest 5005 firmware because I clicked the link to download the file when it was first posted, but now the link goes to a page to upload files or share links. This makes the need for a better source for 5xxx firmwares even more desirable. I'm glad I downloaded it while the link worked!

The second link in the first post of this thread is supposed to be link to latest 5005 firmware (LNFA1101.E30.0102.184xfor B208.zip) that updates to 0102-1840-0101-B20G, but it's been broken for a few weeks at least. I sent PM to CCRomeo asking if the link could be fixed, but I guess he either can't or hasn't fixed it for some reason.

Unfortunately http://web.archive.org/web/200802010...le.com/liteon/ doesn't work for 5xxx US firmwares. It gives either "Failed Connection" error or "Not in Archive" message for 5xxx US firmwares.

Ok... if you go instead to http://web.archive.org/web/200711300...le.com/liteon/ and follow the /US-LVW5005 (0102) -Firmware/ directory, at least some of those links do work. There is an LNFA1098.ES3 in the /Real v098 -ES3/ directory, if that helps.

Clicking the LNFA1098.ES3 link there brings up a page of numerous question marks and other characters instead of going to download the file. I find no links there that facilitates firmware download. Have you successfully downloaded any firmware from any of those links?

Yes, right-click and "Save as" or "Save Link as". The web page doesn't encode the file type so it defaults to text. I just downloaded the 5007 firmware (which I use) and verified it against the firmware download from the archived LiteOn webpage (and it matched).

Right click and "Save Target Link As" does seem to work. This download procedure is a bit odd with that right click and save procedure since most firmware downloads are simply left click which prompts to save file. Too bad some of the latest firmwares aren't there like the latest 0102 update Brian231 and I had some difficulty finding but finally found it. Good find, and this should help those looking for some older firmwares.

I've just acquired an LVW-5005XS with firmware LNFA1102 (the "serial number" string is 0102-4140-0102-M203 (100-010D)).

Has anyone seen the 0102 firmware, or know what's in it? I believe I can downgrade this to the 0098 firmware but I don't need to yet as my 5007 is MV-free. I'm also interested in a link to the LNKA1101 (0101) firmware level.

Thanks all.

P.S. Drive test info is in the other thread.

Does anyone know how to upgrade US LVW-5005 firmware on units whose SN starts with 0000-1140..., and 0000-1840...? I am stuck, cannot find any firmware upgrades for either of these, can do region code hack using remote, but unable to find a firmware file anywhere that I can hack for macro and burn to CD to do fimware upgrade. In addition, with this 0000 firmware, these units will only burn to +R and +RW media, and not to -R and -RW media, regardless of DVD Burner used. The earlier unit originally had a DDW-411S DVD Burner, it's complete SN was 0000-1140-0086-F2SD (005-010B), and the later unit originally had a DDW-813S DVD Burner, it's complete SN was 0000-1840-0098-B20G (005-010D). None of the 5005 LNFA (0102-...) nor 5006 LNHA (0104-...) firmware files will work for doing a CD firmware upgrade. I am almost at the point where I am going to have to unsolder the firmware chips to reprogram them via a Willem programmer, then resolder them back in place, but, hopefully someone has an easier solution... Thanks!

sqaprof, that's pretty curious. I don't know if these will help but here are a couple of thoughts...

First, the sticker on the back with the serial number should tell what firmware came with the units - see if the prefix is in fact LNFA or whatever.

Second, have you tried a "system restore" in the setup menu before you try the firmware upgrade? Folks have posted that doing that and then having the upgrade CD in the drive seems to help.

I've read about folks flashing a unit with different firmware (for another model) and having that work, so there must be a way to do that. I haven't tried that myself and am not certain of the details of how to do it, but that may be similar to what you need to do.

(And does anyone know if a system restore also restores the original firmware level?)

Good luck!

Thanks for the response to my SN: 0000-1140 and 0000-1840 firmware update request, afecu. However, no luck with anything so far though.

First, I don't have the original boxes for either unit, so do not have the LNFA (or whatever) prefixes. I do not know what the firmware file must be named in order to get it to be accepted and flashed by the 0000 firmware in these units.

Second, System Restore doesn't do anything either. Was hoping someone might have a cross flash for these weird SN's, but have not seen anything yet.

Again, the 2 SN's I have not been able to get firmware upgrades for are as follows: 0000-1140-0086-F2SD (005-010B) and 0000-1840-0098-B20G (005-010D).

Does anyone know of a cross flash that would work for these to bring these weird 0000- firmwares to the 0102-1140 and 0102-1840 firmwares?

Thank you again, afecu, and thank you in advance for any help anyone might have for a solution to getting upgradeable (hacked) firmware for SN: 0000-1140 and SN: 0000-1840 units.

I've got the American version of the 5006 but never altered the firmware. I've poked around in here, but don't know what to look for.

Is the hacked firmware that makes an American 5006 (5006A?) macro-friendly and region-free still around anywhere? The DVD drawer is sometimes a little uncooperative, but the machine still records and plays well.

I'd love to upgrade it if the firmware is available.

Help?

The original 0098 firmware needed is the third link in the first post at http://club.myce.com/f102/liteon-rec...-files-150339/ if your serial number begins with 0104-1840. Download that file and run the hack on it by downloading the hacker from http://ilohacker.tripod.com/ and following instructions their except you'll need to use the 0098 firmware you just downloaded instead of the latest firmware in step 1 of the instructions.
