Buz,

Check out msg #124. It has the instructions from CCRomeo detailing what you need to do. It's pretty easy.

Does anyone know which MPEG encoding is used in the 3-hr mode? Is it the same as the 2-hr mode, or is the lower-quality 4-hour encoding?

Thanks!

It is like the 4-hour mode with a slightly higher average bit rate.

There have been some threads by 5005 users with 1140 in serial number seeking firmware with 1140 in order to hack successfully. There've also been several posts in this thread stating successful hack using 1140 firmwares, but I see no link to those firmwares in this thread. It might be helpful for other users with units that have 1140 in serial number if links could be included in the first post of this thread. I found 6 different firmwares with 1140 at http://www.pumapeople.com/liteon/US-...140-0098-xxxx/.

Hi. I'm a newbie to this DVD recorder and to this forum. Most of you probably know the answer to my question so here goes...

Just purchased a used LVW-5005 yesterday. The S/N: 0102-4140-0101-G2BD (USA). I quickly realized this unit was having problems writing to my Sony 16X DVD+R media.

Searched the internet and found this site where I read that a firmware upgrade would address the DVD media issue. Got the new firmware installed on the 5005. Then I saw in these posts that there is a hacked firmware version to make it region free, removes macrovision and allows for EP (3 hour recordings). Got that firmware loaded and I now have the EP (3 hour recording) option so I guess the hacked firmware loaded correctly.

I just tried my first and second VHS tapes in my VHS player and I tried to copy them to DVD and got the "Protected Content" message for both of them. I guess my firmware version is 0101 so I can't disable macrovision on my unit...or can I?

I have not been able to determine if there is a way to downgrade my 5005 to the 0098 firmware and apply the hacked firmware to it that would disable macrovision?

Thanks for you help in advance.

Look at post 135 and you'll find yoyur answer. You need to get the 098 firmware loaded first then hack it. If you are having trouble contact CC Romeo he can help you out. Good Luck and let us know how you make out.

Post 135 is a link to a bunch of firmware versions. So are you saying if I download the US Firmware Version for 098 and I downgrade my LVM-5005 from 101 to 098 and also download and apply the hacked version for 098, that it should resolve my problem?

What happens to the firmware upgrade I did to resolve the DVD media issue? Will that still be in effect or will I have to upgrade to that one again as well after I downgrade? I'm very confused.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Tried to downgrade to firmware 098 using the LNFBE098.ES5 (5005) file with no success. I put the CD in the 5005, it says it is trying to read it but it eventually ejects the CD. Tried it several times with no success. Am I using the right firmware? Can anyone help me?

Thanks.

An email conversation I had with someone having trouble with a Philips DVDR985 prompted me to think about my LVW-5045. (SN: 0132-0141-0201-B20G (100-010D). This unit replaced my 985 which became unreliable. (if interested - see my posts from 1+ years ago )

Is there an advantage to upgrade to firmware 204 over the 201 already in this unit? I have no real need for the hacks.

The update might be just for more media compatiblity, haven't heard of any real breakthrough benefit with this update.

Hi there

I am a new UK user of the forum and have a faulty drive in my LVW-5006 recorder.

I have ordered a 1693S drive but wondered whether it would work without updating the firmware. I wanted to just try the drive loosly in place and see if it worked OK.

I have had loads of troubles on the machine which mirror the problems that other forum users have.

I only really want the thing to record properly and play back and am not worried about any other format than pure DVD's.

I also wondered what forum users reccomend as the most reliable disks to use.

The 1693 is a good replacement. I am using one on my 5005x. I have been having real good luck with Sony, TDK and Verbatim DVD+R. I picked up some Ridata DVD+RW media to try out. So far they are OK. I have one that I have recorded on over 100 times and erased it with no loss of quality. Stay away from Maxell and Memorex.

OK I have been looking but cannot find firmware that I hope would solve my problem, here goes have 2 5005's I saw a site but don't remember where that listed all 0098-firmwares thought if I could download B205 might solve my problem. Any thoughts or does someone have a sn# that would get me B205
1 5005 sn#0102-1840-0098-B205 reads memorex 16X+R
2 5005 sn#0102-1840-0098-B20G will not read memorex 16X+R Why Firmware????

Firmware is the reason, once the units' systems are rid of all the bugs through firmware updates, future updates usually are for media compatibility. The 5005 was introduced to the market when only x4 disc were available, now they are at x16, thus firmware is needed to update.

I understand its firmware but B20G is the latest is it not and won't read 16X+R and B205 will which is older I think How could I flash firmware to B205 then it might read 16X like my other machine.

Buzz-CCC, in other threads on this forum I've read where users have flashed latest LiteOn firmware to fix 16x compatibility issues and then flashed back to 098 hacked firmware resulting in fixed 16x issues and regain 3 hour mode and macrovision removal. I'm unsure if what you're saying about firmware versions is true, but there are 2 different 101 firmwares including the B20G in the first post at http://club.cdfreaks.com/f102/liteon...-files-150339/; the other is G2BD firmware which you might try if what you say about firmware versions is true.

Arek W, simply running hack program from http://ncc2315.com/ilo/ should remove macrovision from your current firmware. However, it will be necessary to find a 098 firmware beginning with 0102-0243 in order to upgrade to 098 firmware and run hack to remove marcovision because the first 2 sets of 4 digits must match exactly for successful flash and versions past 098 won't hack. The "data disc" error will be generated when the first 2 sets of 4 digits don't match. Your serial number indicates you have 080 firmware with macrovision enabled and 3 hour mode disabled. For more on what different parts of serial number mean see post #23 at http://club.cdfreaks.com/f102/lite-l...vision-183223/.

Hello all.
Sorry to sound like a newbie but I have read and read till I was blue in the face and still can't figure out how to accomplish my goal. I just found a "new" (refurbished) LVW-5005SX recorder. The serial number is 0102-4140-0102-M203 (100-010D). I would like to "roll it back" to the 098 hacked version but cant seem to find the proper procedure. I did find a file called 5005SX v098.rar at pumapeople which I believe to be the hacked 098 version. Do I just make that file a CD and use it as an up/downgrade or do I need to upgrade with another file first? Thank you for any responses.
