Fair point, but usually but not 100% of the time when people are referring to lossless formats they are normally talking about lossless codecs normally due to saving space but retaining quality. Well at least when I'm asked or have been reading else where.

You can't restore MP3's from an Ipod/Iphone - it's a one way street. If an MP3/AAC files is deleted from the PC that the ithingy syncs with, then the ithingy will have that song deleted the next time it syncs.

You can also only sync music on the ithingy with a single PC. I haven't yet tested whether wiping the OS & reinstalling the same OS+Itunes in identical conditions will allow synching to resume ... somehow I doubt it.

Ipods & Iphones are stupid, and are a bane on this world .... but they're just so easy to use .. and convenient.

That's alright. I have any mp3s on the ithingy backed up elsewhere, so if they vanish from the ithingy...that's OK

And yeah, I realised "backing up" wasn't actually what I was doing. Silly me.

I guess I'll deal with any pitfalls as they come (and, with it being an ithingy, I'm sure they will )...if there's anything I can't sort out...then I guess I'll be cursing myself for buying an ithingy and it'll be an (expensive) lesson learned

As for iphones. That's where I draw the line. No iphone for me

They're so convenient .... and the apple store is just *designed to sucker people in* & spend just $1 dollar on crappy apps which look/sound cool, but which interest wanes after just one or two uses ... and before you know it ... you've been suckered for $$$$.

That said ... I only download & use free apps
The Ipod Torch is probably the only app I've used more than twice ... and it was free ... I'm so cheap.

LOL. I've used the apple store like once, after jumping through hoops and telling them the ins and outs of a cat's behind just to do so. I doubt I'll be using it again anytime soon.

As for iphones. I have a dinky pink LG that I'm pretty fond of, so no need for one.

Those are all Windows users. Over in OS X land, we love iTunes.

Seriously, I have heard a lot of complaints about iTunes under Windows, but it has nowhere near those kind of problems under OS X. It really shouldn't be used in Windows.
