Found a new place to buy media from, got the following:
2x50pk 52x Verbatim Pastels (TY! W00t!)
2x50pk 16x Mitsubishi DVD+R (Prodisc MCC004)

Held back on some 8x Verbatim Digital Movie discs and some other rare goodies, but certainly I'll go back to buy out the whole store. And from how I buy things, the way I see it is that if one's worth buying, it's better to get two instead.

The Pastels are yummy discs - I have a few packs which I'm saving, can't bring myself to use them (using unbranded TY instead currently)

And...MCC004...**drooooool**

Keeping your funds in the green is very difficult when you stumble upon a haul of great media

I was honestly surprised to find these discs with a dated ©2004 on them. I never thought I'd see these ever, and from what I've seen there are still a couple of these stashed away in some corner of that tiny store I found.

It looks like I'll be spending my cash on some more pastels, I'm really liking them. These are my first TY in "bulk", I just hope the DVDs somehow find their way into my life... I also found some AZO/Adv.AZO/SuperAZO discs... I actually wanted to buy them all out but I had other plans for my money...

Someone should lock me up. I don't even think I can use up all this media with the frequency of my purchases. I buy ~5 discs for every disc I use for burning...!

lol, you can tell they're ValueLine because of the 1-16x compatible printing
Awesome burn though!
And those RitekF16s should be nice too (my Pioneer hates them with stock write strategy, but I get very good results with Optodisc strategy).

Somethings arrived here today, too.
Sky DVD+R 8x "New Technology, Swiss Made ()", 25pc cake from e.Bay

And whats inside? OPTODISC OR8

Well it could have been better, maybe if try the 12x or 8x, here is a burn at 16x.

More media madness...
  • 2x50pk Verbatim CD-R Pastel Disc Extra Protection (MIJ TY!) - into the stockpile
  • 4x50pk Verbatim non-AZO CD-R (MIT CMC) - general/audio
  • 1x50pk Maxell MQ (Master Quality) CD-R (MIThailand - CMC MID, same as Verbs non-AZO!) - audio probably
  • 1x50pk Verbatim Digital Movie DVD-R 8x (MIT - Prodisc packaging) - stockpile!
  • 200pcs Slim Jewel Cases in various pastel colors (the carton the discs are on in the pic )

Couldn't resist the pastels (no experience with "Extra Protection" discs though - anyone?) and the Digital Movie MCC02RG20 discs, held back on some waaay overpriced That's-branded TY DVD+R 16x (TYG03?) in slim jewel cases. I still have some excellent quality Ritek Maxell MQs (MIT), thought these were the same as the MIThailand discs. Dunno about quality, haven't gotten around to test it yet. One of the staff of my new "Special Store" told me they ran out of AZO discs just yesterday! DAMN! So I'm stuck with non-AZO CMC verbies, and these are almost transparent...

I'm planning on burning a hundred CDs in the next couple of days, and I'm having difficulty deciding which to use... (I'm saving the pastels for the really important stuff) I could choose to use my stockpile of Verbatim MIM CD-Rs made by Daxon ©2005 (as pictured on the second pic below), or the newly purchased batch of Verbatim MIT CD-Rs made my CMC ©2007. I've tried a test disc from both batches and all my players/standalones have no trouble reading them (relatively new equipment). I need help - which is better in terms of compatibility and reliability? CMC or DAXON? I'll be using these for audio by the way. Maybe someone with extensive experience on one or the other (better yet, both!) could vouch for their 'capabilities'. (or should I start a new thread regarding this inquiry?)

I love shopping for discs...

But we have had a lot of Pastels not long ago, and even a supermarket stocked them like two months ago.

They are rare? Really? And what's with the extra protection? Some hard coating or special layer composition (and does it really work)? I found a shop with a few cartons of this ©2007 stuff (same one that recently had the ©2004 classic pastel design) - should I buy them all? All I wanted was TY just to find out I even got something better?

< blatant abuse of Womi's fun banana (Sorry Womi!)

The "Extra Protection" is a white top layer on the CD which makes it harder to scratch the reflective and data layer below.

Extra Protection is not as tough af Verbatim's "Crystal" CD-R or Plextor CD-R, but it is harder to scratch than the other CD-R media I have.

The Verbatim Pastels are not particularly tough, but they are Taiyo Yudens and hence yummy.

Thanks Drage, that's good to know. i've seen some "Crystal" CDs, maybe I might just grab some the next time I see them.

I'll keep away from optical media stores... for now. I'm almost at 2000 blanks now, more than I'll ever need in the next... month?
