Still, the thing is that ATI doesn't need countless revisions of the same card to outperform Nvidia, with the 4870 and soon to be released 4870X2 they will have done it on their first attempt with current gen cards.

Western Digital "My Book" 1TB external USB/Firewire/e-sata HDD.
I have over 250GB of data to backup and DVD R or even BD for backing up this amount of data didn't appeal to me.

The drive is connected via Firewire at the moment as an e-sata cable wasn't supplied with the drive.

Recently bought an inexpensive Chinese standalone dvd player, Tagwood DV-E500 (about 50 US$).
These things are multiplying like rabbits (the number of new brands that actually work well.)
Region free out of the box.
5.1 sound connectors
USB port (plays most everything I throw at it.)
Divx, Xvid, MP4 file support
S-Video connector for hook-up to PC monitor.

The only drawbacks I have found so far--no support for hi-res JPG files and the tray opening is not as smooth as the Samsung model I look at at the same time in the shop.
Happy so far.

Firewire wasn't much faster than USB2 (around 34MB/s, maybe i didn't have it setup properly but i didn't really have time to try and get it faster.

@Arachne.
I like Snow Patrol too.

BTW: Didn't notice the other replies to WD HDD.

Most of the files are raw 24bit high bit rate single track audio files, averaging 250MB each, around 10 - 14 tracks per song and, they can lay around in that format for months until i have time to mix them and then master them down to a 16bit 44.1KHz stereo audio track. It soon eats up a large hard drive.
Now i feel comfy knowing i have a backup of them

Cakebox was prodisc style (low lip and prodisc style font) but the discs seem to be CMC made (MAHA code in the clear part of the Hub)....
