I haven't made the purchase yet, but I will be getting a new laptop this year. Five years ago I got an Inspiron 1100 for $900. I went back three years later and upgraded to 1150 with no trade in for $450. I've been pricing newer models and I can get another upgrade for $300. I just keep getting bigger and better laptops for less and less money. The prices are coming down so fast.

I love life...Yeah, I'm sad, but at the same time, I'm really happy that something could make me feel that sad. It's like...It makes me feel alive, you know. It makes me feel human. The only way I could feel this sad now is if I felt something really good before. So I have to take the bad with the good. So I guess what I'm feeling is like a beautiful sadness.

Courage and perseverance have a magical talisman, before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish into air.

I am so glad that GWB's 8 year COD game is finally over.

The most important things are the hardest to say. They are the things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them-words shrink things that seemed limitless when in your head to no more than living size when they're brought out. But it's more than that, isn't it? The most important things lie close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you've said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while saying it. That's the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within not for want of a teller but for the want of an understanding ear. - Stephen King, intro to "The Body."

Pssst...anyone wanna buy a used phone?

I got sick of the fancy operating system in the Nokia Navigator (the guys in R&D should be fired for the crap they stuck in this...it´s worse than switching to Linux...), so...it´s for sale, and I´m gonna dump the rest of the old phones on eBay as well

...they all still work too

I just picked up a much needed 2 GB U3 flashdrive at Future Shop today. I don't think there is such thing as too much memory.

It´s 2 a.m. and I´ve just filled in the last of a thousand fields on-line to order my new lappy...

a Dell Vostro with
Intel Core 2 Duo 2 GHz
Display: 14.1"
Graphic: NVIDIA GeForce Go 8400M GS mit 128MB
ODD: DVD-R/CD-RW
Hard-drive: 250 GB
Memory: 3072 MB RAM
Weight: 2,45 kg
and...XP-Pro

All up incl wicked German 19% taxes €855

I think the size and the weight (important cos i bike everywhere), the 3GB RAM, and the fact that it comes with XP is what made me do it

Also cool...I specified the long-life battery

It´ll still take a week or two to appear, so until then you´ll see me come and go according to the whim of the BSOD god...maybe hear a rude word or two...

Yo Drag: I googled for Dell 14" again...this time found my way back into Dell´s website to this machine. Strangely, I can´t find it by directly searching their website! And, btw, I was able to specify XP-Pro without extra costs, and upgraded to the 1440 x 900 WXGA+ screen and better battery for quite decent money.
All tips, and pushing and shoving courtesy of our bunch of cool freaks which helped me to see the light, and stay small, light and powerful

Thanks all

D
