| What do downsizing companies do when they run out of Employees? Slayerking tells me some more disturbing news ... Telstra (Aussies sort-of privatised, but government majority owned telco) have just announce another 2600 lay-offs are soon .... I think they've only got about 3000 employees left ...... So at that point of time, I think they'll be into the managers .... So by 2010, I reckon that the CEO of Telstra will be the sole employee left in australia & that by 2015 he will finish the downsizing by firing himself. So does that mean the company will be downsized out of existence? Or will the fact that they've moved everything to India to reduce operating costs backfire, leaving a bunch of underpaid indians in control of Aussies biggest telco's finances ..... Indian manager 1: Oops .. I just accidentally transferred ownership of Australia's entire telecommunications infrastructure to the indian government. Indian manager 2: I don't think anyone will notice anyway. Result -> Australia's telecommunication system is run like the indian railway. Indian government fires all the conductors to reduce costs .... Australias telecom system falls over ... since copper conductors are the most basic principle of communications (except optical fibre backbones). What are your thoughts? Will companies downsize themselves out of existence ... or is there a future for countries with massive unemployment rates? Quote:

| Re: What do downsizing companies do when they run out of Employees? You really don't get it do you? Managers and the board are only after one thing: personal gain. It really doesn't matter how many layoffs there are and how horrible the company is doing. All that matters is that the manager can get enough money to do nothing for the rest of his miserable life. Normal workmen have to work. Managers and CEO's have targets. Wether or not the target is met is not really of any concern. It just affects their huge bonuses a little. (I.E. Fifty thousand dollars instead of 1.5 million). Why do you think that ministers, CEO's and all other management related junkies suddenly get advisory roles in other boards. We have had prime ministers that are now advising Shell and the Royal Banks on what to do.
