Posted: 07-03-2007 | My laptop died yesterday DEAD I tell you  Downloading AnyDvd´s latest update and it froze...restart...no, it said "can´t find operating system". Sony recovery discs (all 4 sets made over the last 2 years) were not recognised. Eventually installed the new HD and tried again. This time the Acronis recovery disc did everything until the end...GREAT I thought to myself...good old Acronis. Restart: a blue screen with lots of bad words in German!!!  Maybe they were just telling me "error and it is futile to continue", but anything in German sounds like swearing anyway. EF YOU SEE KAY So...at work, WANT BEER...my Sony may fly from the window shortly (except, damned student has just arrived so I´ll settle for a coffee and some passive verbs for now) This is a Grrr post.  <---see!(more grrring later I guess)

Posted: 07-03-2007 | The verdammt Lappy is now in the hands of a magician... ...actually as I left him, it was balanced on his knees installing something while he did other weird things with his own HUGE Toshiba and HUGE mac. I think the system is like this: Using the new HD he installed a new XP Pro from the box, then started some recovery stuff using my oldest recovery discs which will then allow my own XP to be installed/repaired and therefore revert to its (my) own registration and activation codes, or whatever  He thinks it will all work and after he has reinstalled some basic stuff, like AntiVir (his recommendation for the current best free anti-virus protection) driver updates and some more whatever...then he´ll show up at my place tonight and we´ll start the reinstallation of some of the other necessary software and see if those beers in the corner of my kitchen are any good.

| Good luck with it Dean!  I had a similar error on an older 80 gig Seagate drive about OS not being found, filesystem unknown etc on boot up - turned out my HDD had bad sectors, so I swapped it out and all was fine. Hope it's that simple a fix for your poor lappy, and then you can have some celebratory beers
