Except for the fact that Amy Lee can't sing and Cristina Scabbia surely can. And... Scabbia likes computer games too . I prefer Lacuna coil

Oh btw... Moonspell is great too!

Anybody else here listen to good genuine darkwave death rock goth rock other than the bubble gum goth crap jump on the bandwagon groups like Evanescence and Lacuna Coil and their ilk?

If I liked this music, what other type of music will I like? I prefer it if...
  • The vocalist is female
  • The song types are "dark" like Fallen, but not dark as in satanic. So it might sing about hate, despair or anger. Not how to do a satanic ritual on yourself or your neighbour
  • There is preferably an official website I can go to, so I can listen to audio samples to see if I like them.

Any suggestions?
Some that I like:

Ever http://evermusic.net

As Ember http://www.asember.com/

Both dark-ish and female fronted, I actually like as ember even better than evanescence, more and more as I hear them.

Hmmm, I also liked Plumb, but only the first album. They seemed to loose it after that, and really not as heavy as evanescence or the others.

Well, that's it for now.

Whoo hoo! someone else who likes Plumb!!!

I think that my fave song on that album was/is Concrete just cause its so crunchy/dark sounding.

I started noticing a trend of likeing the harder songs on an album the most so I started listening to harder music, lol.

Another group that I like that is not terribly well known is Skypark. The first album again. They were just so quirky and cool. And his voice was neat.

But not really terribly similar to Evanescence so not a whole lot of help to the op, sorry!

Re: If I liked Evanescence: Fallen, what else will I like?

Well it's good to see lovers of Nightwish and Evanescence. I'm not a huge fan of these bands but I am a lover of "the dark stuff" or "the hauntingly-beautiful." I think I'll check out those other bands you guys mentioned. For those who think Amy Lee can't sing, you should listen to the acoustic version of "Bring Me To Life." That voice is all her...maybe just enhanced for the cd's a tiny bit. But it's still all her...I guess.

Besides that all, the life performance of both WT and Evanescence really sucks. Okay, there are also some non-commercial bands that suck when playing live, but there's just such a difference. Both ladies (Sharon den Adel and Amy Lee) better'd shut up and be pretty
Do you have anything to back this up or are you just making up stuff because you don't like them? Unless it's total fabrication (possible I suppose), Evanesence began with Ben Moody and Amy Lee getting together at high school age. They played locally and released several demo CDs. It wasn't until several years later they release a true commercial album produced by a record company and 80% was songs they had already been performing.
Amy Lee has a excellent voice from a technical view even if it isn't your taste musically.
She's not that pretty though, so I guess she loses all the way around with you...

Re: If I liked Evanescence: Fallen, what else will I like?

Some bands/albums i'd recommend:

Lacuna Coil - Unleashed Memories (Make sure to get the special edition of Unleashed Memories that contains their EP Halflife. The song 'Stars' is really awesome.)
Tiamat - Prey (female vocals on some songs)
The Gathering
The 69 Eyes (altough no female vocalist here)
Sirenia - At Sixes and Sevens - one of the best metal albums with a female singer, although the death/black metal vocals may scare you away
Moonspell - Irregilous/The Antidote - great gothic metal with occassional death vocals
Sentenced - The Funeral Album - this is quite good too

you pretty much want Goth Metal and the "darkness" varies.

Another one you'd probably like but doesn't have a female vocalist is Apocalyptica their tour vocalist is Toryn Green, the guy who replaced Brett Scallions for the band Fuel.
their recorded vocalists vary as they have all kinds of people appear on their albums. (Till Lindemann from Rammstein)

It's strange to hear metal based around a quartet of classically trained cellists... from Finland...

But overall I think Lacuna Coil is probably what you are looking for.

But one blast from the past you should look up is Warlock - "Triumph & Agony"
Doro Pesch has an "interesting" voice.

"All We Are" was their one serious hit in the US, but Doro singing "I Rule The Ruins" is one of
those songs you never forget...

But if you want LESS dark than Evanescence... Uhhh... No, you probably don't want any Warlock.

Re: If I liked Evanescence: Fallen, what else will I like?

BTW, "Fallen" wasn't the last Evanescence album.
there was another one released after "The Open Door"
anf there's a Live Album as well "Anywhere But Home"

And there's another band you should check out:
"In This Moment" they have two albums out, the
first "Beautiful Tragedy" released 2005-ish the
second "The Dream" released 2009.

Wow, now i dont know about WT but what you said about Evanescence kinda pissed me of. now maybe the record company created the "goth image" of Amy Lee, but she says in probably 90% of her interviews that she is NOT goth. It's been said over and over that they have taken the "goth" label off themselves. Evanescence was not created that way. and i know its your opinion, but i, the people i go with, and the people that i talk to that have gone all say they LOVE the live performances of Evanescence. Basically amazing in my opinion. I really don't get what you mean by "fake"... there is a reason why they are widely known, it's because they are good at what they do. Goth to me is the beauty of the darker things in life, and Amy has a great way of expressing that in her witing...
Btw, Amy Lee is very beautiful, idk what you are talking about mhorton

Necromancy!

Haha, I forgot about this... I signed up for this forum solely for the purpose of calling out Dee-ehn for his BS claims that he fabricated because he didn't have a real argument.
Tourniquet, just personal taste I guess. I mean I don;t think she is ugly by any means, but....
But it doesn't matter to me what a musician looks like anyway, the sound is what matters. And Amy Lee is still the best female vocalist of recent years, IMO, at least on par with Whitney, etc.
I'm right there with you on everything else you said.
BTW, everyone please do not buy anything from We Are The Fallen. Ben Moody basically created a new Evanescence wannbe band with an American Idol reject, after backstabbing Amy Lee when he left, and now his talking all kinds of garbage about her.

i dont normaly do this (defending bands that i like) :P but..i cant say this for within temptation how ever i really dont see how Evanescence can be "Fake" as they used to play at little rock way back before they got famous and got there manager, and for saying they suck live you should watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hR-Lut6Agow
