| Half life 2 players- Is HL2 giving you motion sickness! Heh, I just read this over at Valve Steam or Steam leak or whatever they call their forum. Seems like a lot of folks are getting sick to their stomachs from playing this game. They don't know why but I guess even the game warns you that it might make you sick. Could be perspective as HL2 uses a bit different vision angle of 75 degrees rather than 90 as some other FPS making it seeem as though you have tunnel vision. Or maybe it has something to do with refresh rates. Interesting thread though! Seems like some people start getting ill in as little as 30 minutes! Then, if they get away from the game for awhile, they start to feel better. The original poster can play no longer than 1 hour without feeling the urge to to spew. |

| Re: Half life 2 players- Is HL2 giving you motion sickness! I think its a case of collective imagination. Well maybe apart from the 60hz thing which I know takes getting used to. But blaming the LOD... Naah, then you'd get the same thing from watching HDTV...

| Re: Half life 2 players- Is HL2 giving you motion sickness! hm, i can just confirm what Crabbyappleton sais - at least partial... i play shooters, 3d games and whatever for a very long time - since wolfenstein 3d - and so i think i can say that i am a trained fps gamer... ![]() but: when playing ut2003 first time i got a bad feeling in my stomach area and i did not know why - i played on and on and in the end i got had to stop playing this game for some DAYS because it made me feel same every time... than i found out that the FOV in ut2003 was lower than in other games and classic ut - which i played very very very very much... i set it back to 85 degree and guess what?! everything was fine - playing for hours made me just feel better... ![]() so, at least I think that the virtual POV CAN (it doesn't have to) make you feel sick... ps: and what's about the 60Hz thing: for Direct3D just use DXDIAG to force it to another refresh rate (85Hz or whatever) |

| Re: Half life 2 players- Is HL2 giving you motion sickness! The only game which has ever made me sick was phantasmogoria (I think I spelled that right). In the game they burnt a witch at the stake & superimposed a screaming woman tied to a chair with a giant bonfire. That was just one of the many great cutscenes in it. Creepy.

| Re: Half life 2 players- Is HL2 giving you motion sickness! It was pretty f@#$d up. It wasn't a straight linear game. You could do different things, depending on your choices. My memory of the game is vague...it was a looooong time ago.
