| Re: Formula 1 & Motorsport Chat The FIA have ruled that Red Bull's floor is illegal and will have to be changed. The part in question is a hole in the exposed area of the floor just in front of the rear wheels and is used to direct the airflow from the rear wheels to benefit the diffuser. The rules say that the floor must be impervious, which rules out any holes. Some other teams have holes in the same area of the floor, but they are connected to the outside edge of the floor via a very narrow slot (in at least one case reportedly thinner than a sheet of paper), so the 'hole' is actually formed by the outside edge of the floor and is legal. Red Bull's hole does not have a slot connecting it to the edge of the floor. They have always said that they have a letter from the FIA stating that it was legal, but this is only the FIA's opinion on the legality of the car not a binding ruling (as Lotus found with their front ride height control system). Fortunately the other top teams said after Monaco that they would not protest the result of the race.

| Re: Formula 1 & Motorsport Chat Great race, horrible strategy from Red Bull and Ferrari, and excellent strategy for McLaren. RG and SP had also an outstanding race. Dee, JB is a driver than can give 101% when everything is working to him liking, the same also applies for FM and i guess many more drivers. The only ones that will constantly outperform the car and get 110% if their equipment, are Lewis and Alonso.

| Re: Formula 1 & Motorsport Chat ^^ ![]() ^ ![]() Only got highlights again ( ), but a very good race. Disasterous strategy from Ferrari, but they deserve 10/10 for having a go. Great drives from Grosjean & Perez to make their one stop strategies succeed. ![]() Hamilton's move on Alonso could have been a classic, but DRS made it a bit too easy. Apart from the HRTs, nobody seemed to have any brake problems this year. Red Bull had to change their brake cooling at the last minute (their use of a duct in the suspension was declared illegal). And there weren't as many marbles off line as usual. Comparing the driving styles of Hamilton & Button is rather like comparing Senna & Prost. Button is smoother and superb at setting the car up, but cannot cope as well as Hamilton when it isn't working perfectly. He's been having tyre temperature problems on & off for 3 years now (since Nürburgring 2009), dispite changing teams & tyre manufacturers. Who's going to be the next winner? How about Raikkonen, Grosjean or Perez for 8 out of 8, and a 6th different constructor? If the really hot weather they're experiencing on the south coast of Spain moves north to Valencia it might suit Lotus & Sauber with their low tyre wear.

| Why that?? BTW, Astra changed some transponders to weaker Orbiters co-positioned at 19.2° East, so expect reception issues. ![]() I think next winner is Kimi.

| So, I nearly was right.... I personally think that Webber deserved place 3 more than Schumacher. Not alone because of MSC using DRS within yellow flags twice, Webber managed to come from place 19!! Vettel or Hamilton should have won this one, just Alonso had more luck this time. Bad shit with the clash Maldonado/Hamilton, bad luck for Vettel and Grosjean.... Our 3 BBC crew meber said this was a great race, I have to disagree the first time this year. I didnt like it really, this time. Nothing about the bbc, just a weird race IMO. Alone the SC phase that was to too too long.

| By far the worst race of the season, it looked more like a crash derby than an F1 race. FA was lucky (just luck the good old times back in the renault days), the lotus team is fast but the car and both drivers aren't at the top of their game. But also if you happen to be LW and you are at the peak of your season, you get a williams driver (not for the first time) crashing to you. As i said, horrible race, lets hope that Silverstone will be a good race.

| The BBC only broadcast highlights of the Canadian GP. Only 10 of the races are being broadcast live this year, the other 10 are highlights only (due to that highly questionable deal they did with Sky). ![]()

| Well that was by far the most interesting Valencia race ever, but as it is arguably the most boring F1 circuit for many years... Maldonado was penalised after the race for rejoining the track in an unsafe manner, but only with a 20 second penalty (in lieu of a drive through penalty). He drops to 12th and Senna is promoted to 10th. Surely he is overdue a race ban given his past form? Schumacher wasn't penalised because it isn't actually illegal to use DRS under yellow flags. The two drivers penalised in Barcelona had set a faster sector time and were deemed to have not slowed down for the yellow flags. Their use of DRS was irrelevant. Alonso was definitely lucky, although to a certain extent you make your own luck. Vettel had the race in the bag before the safety car. Hamilton would have suffered much less tyre wear had the jack failure not dropped him back into the traffic (as Gary Anderson said, McLaren's new jack probably cost more to develop than the entire Marussia car). It was great to see the Lotus cars going well again. Once again they had great pace late in the race, but are still too slow on full tanks at the start. If they can get that sorted they could give McLaren & Red Bull a very hard time.

Info already posted earlier in this thread. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/17238688 I'm glad to have many options by then. Normally BBC One/HD/Red Buttons is my first choice. Then comes Sky Germany most times, then SF/SRG HD, then ORF HD, then sometimes SKY UK (Sport F1 and Sport F1 HD), then even n-tv for replays (quali etc) and LBNL and the best of them all: all the LIVE FEEDS!!!!!! That is the purpose of having at least 1 good dish. ![]() Catch ALL FOM and other feeds in SD and HD mainly on 37w, 30w, 15w, 8w, 1w, 3e, 5e, 7e, 10e, 16e, 31e etc pp. ![]() And indeed, in case of Schumacher, only the sector times count. But anyone would first go over DRS because of its nature.......... PS. Ibex, I see you also enjoy the BBC F1 coverage, by mentioning Gary Anderson too.

| @_Chef_ I think I thought line 2 of post #358 was connected with post #355 (brain's rather foggy at the moment ). Unfortunately I don't think a satellite dish is an option round here, this end of the village is a conservation area which restricts such things. Also our neighbour's trees might be an issue. They are magnificent, but very tall and obscure most of the sky to the south and putting the dish on a tall pole at the end of the garden wouldn't be popular. For the live races I always watch all 4 hours of practice, Inside F1 in the evenings, qualifying, the race & the post-race forum. The BBC doesn't always broadcast the forum on terrestrial TV and I have to wait for it to appear on iPlayer (usually around midnight ). I usually finish the race about half an hour after the Hispania cars ( ) because I rewind the interesting bits, the commentators miss something. For the other races there is still live coverage on the radio, but it's a bit tedious without the pictures (although it was very handy for filling in the ad breaks back in the ITV days). So it's just the highlights on television, then have a moan about the conspiracy of corruption which led to the Sky deal.

| Yeah, I see and feel sad for your misery (if I can call it that). If you had sky germany you could also select audio #2 and enjoy all the sessions without comments. ![]() The deal with greedy skymurdoch, well, it could have been worse!!!!!! Have you tried watching the Sky UK F1 channel? Its kinda black and white, no real spirit within, no jokes, no extras, no support, no fun, no enthusiasm, nothing from that what the BBC always (exceptions may occur) gives........ IMHO. So, I'm happy to have all that options, watching and recording all what I want even in HD with 3 Receivers (1x DVB-S2, 1x DVB-S2 & DVB-T, 1x with 2x DVB-S) and more than 1 DVB-S/S2 cards... The latter are very handy when 4.2.2 Feeds in SD or HD are ON and also when you want to record the WHOLE transponder with all that extras..... nice stuff. So, greetings and race on!! PS. Redbutton doesnt show the practices live online???

| Sky showed an hour-long preview programme (well advert) for their F1 coverage on their free terrestrial channel before the season started and it looked ghastly. They appear to be making the same mistake that ITV made 15 years ago and treating it like a football match. And the amount of coverage looks much less than they were promising, the dedicated F1 channel is clearly just a way to extract even more money from their subscribers. The combination David Croft and Martin Iscariot (formerly Brundle ) in the commentary box sounds very promising. Croft's practice & radio commentary was excellent. But I'm not even slightly tempted to give Sky the £30 or so every month. And I'm not even sure I could get it anyway. It may not be possible to install a satellite dish here without upsetting the neighbours (and possibly the local planning authority), the nearest cable TV area is ~20 miles away and it isn't broadcast on terrestrial. That leaves only IP TV. But BT doesn't carry the F1 channel and no other ISP has installed their equipment in the small village exchange we're connected to.

| Not a bad race from Silverstone. Lots of overtaking, much of it without the aid of DRS. (But I still prefer the pre-2010 circuit )What on earth has gone wrong at McLaren? Lewis had no pace at all. The balance looked fine and it appeared to be working the tyres well enough, but the car was just dead slow. ![]() Maldonado got a €10,000 fine for the incident with Perez. Has there been any race weekend this year when he didn't hit someone?

| Yeah, probably in Melbourne where he just missed Alonso in the final round? ![]() Perez was really pissed off. I'm really glad that I've chosen watching the BBC and Red Button, SRG was OK, ORF too, Sky Germany was medium and kinda delayed. BSkyB showed some funny extras, but everything else came from the BBC. You can still watch the replay via Red Button. ![]() Probably McLaren gambled on even more rain... Mercedes AMG showed their issues with the tyres again, Massa was really good and improved very well. The current team ranking IMHO: 1. Red Bull Racing Renault / RBR 2. FIAT Scuderia Ferrari3. Lotus Renault 4. Petronas Mercedes AMG 5. vodafone McLaren Mercedes >>>> incredible sad

| It was a good race, i was hoping for rain, but you cant have it all. Alonso and Webber both deserve the win. Only 10.000? It's not the first, and i am very sure that it wont be the last time the Pastor will refuse to leave enough space, and he will continue to have the same attitude. Almost halfway of this championship and Red Bull and Ferrari are the teams that will be fighting for both tittles. The Lotus car has a lot of speed, and it appears to be very kind on tires, but none of their drivers is able to take the max out of the car. McLaren need to improve on the next race, if not i cant see any point at trying to fight for this year. For the moment this season is very disappointing for McLaren. Mercedes is also a confusing team, no idea if you can blame the tires or the way that they designed their car. Overall I am missing the good old days when you had 50 laps with the engines revving up to 20.000 rpm, and the cars with the fuel that they need to be constantly fastest. This new F1 looks more artificial.

| @Chef I think Maldonado ran Grosjean off the road earlier in the race in Melbourne. Definitely a born troublemaker. ![]() ![]() @Vroom I was doubtful when the refuelling ban was introduced, but overall I think it is working very well. But they need to change the rule which forces the top 10 to start on their qualifying tyres, it often forces all the top teams to run the same race strategy. I would also get rid of DRS, it is artificial and ruins great overtaking moves by making them too easy (Alonso & Webber at Silverstone). I also dislike KERS. The enviromental case for it is non-existant, but although it is also artificial it can create some great tactical racing (Hamilton in Silverstone). Maybe when the new turbo engines arrive in 2014 (?) it could be replaced by a 'turbo boost' button? Although that may not work as well because the power delivery wouldn't be as immediate. Place your bets now for Hockenheim. How about Maldonado taking Schumacher out by diving up the inside on the first corner, followed by an reenactment of the 1982 Piquet vs Salazar fight?

| I'd like to see more action during practice sessions. It really hurts to see strategies winning over enthusiasm. ![]() In that case, MSC took out himself again in P2 and P3, and then the car again cracked up.... :-X in 6 of 10 races so far. It were clear that Alonso wouldnt fight for the top3 this time.....LOTUS speeded up again but slightly wrong tactic in the later stages....McLaren found strength again.
