"The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips" by Michael Morpurgo.

Lovely book. My mum bought it for me as a Christmas gift, and I have a feeling it'll be read more than just once.

Good book, read it 20 yrs. ago.
Just finished a true story about a Navy Seal team in Afghanistan called Lone Survivor for obvious reasons. Excellent read that you can't put down.

Currently halfway in the Liveship Traders Triology by Robin Hobb - now reading The Mad Ship.
Really love her books, she's a great fantasy author.

Just finished that book (again again) a couple of weeks ago.

I'm now through the Elijah Baley books and Foundation books and I'm currently reading Robots and Empire (again again again) by Isaac Asimov.

I read Foundation series and a few non-Foundation books in the early 1990s, a few only in Korean and a few only in English (since it was extremely difficult to find English-language books in Gwangju in 1990.)

The book I am reading these days: Texas by James A. Michener (4th or 5th time) - can't find any other book by Michener in Inchon-Buchon-Seoul.

It is rather rare that i read a book more than one time, but Asimov works are amazing every time

How many of you guys&girls consider yourself to be a frequent reader?

I've just finished the Tawny Man triology by Robin Hobb - that's the third (!) triology I've finished reading of her, if you like fantasy hers are really great books!

However, with holidays over for me already I'm probably not going to read that many books. Might be nice to share thoughts about books though, almost looks like we're talking about civilized topics here in the living room

Re: Current book you are reading?

The Last Stand, a new book about Custer's Last Stand by Nathaniel Philbrick, author of Mayflower. It's very good so far, well researched. My favorite book on the subject is Sun of the Morningstar by Evan S. Connell. Both are filled with accounts by Indians that took part in the battle as well as news articles and military accounts of the time.

Can't put the thing down ...I started it Wednesday, and I'm 2/3rds of the way through.

Just read an absolutely fantastic book by John Grisham, The Street Lawyer.

Superb and gripping storyline that starts off in high gear right from the very start.

Genuinely exceptional and I thoroughly enjoyed every word.

Very highly recommended - 10/10

^ Nice one Wombler - don't think I've read that one, though the title rings a bell.

I've just borrowed (John Grisham's) "The Testament" and "The Broker" from my mum, but I have another Terry Pratchett one in the pile to read first!

Re: Current book you are reading?

Just finished Tom Clancy's Dead or Alive on my new Kindle (never thought I'd buy one, but after carrying around a 900 page book for a few weeks, I caved. Really like it alot). It was OK, not his best but kept you reading. Just before that Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, terrific biography of a WWII Japanese POW. She also wrote Seabiscuit, a great read.

Re: Current book you are reading?

Just finished rereading a very good fantasy novel called The Element of Fire, by Martha Wells. It is available as a free download from ManyBooks, in a variety of ebook formats: http://www.manybooks.net/titles/well...t_of_fire.html You can even get it in .pdf or plain text if you want to read it on the computer.

This was her first novel, and is worth reading but I prefer her second novel set in this same world, called The Death of the Necromancer.

The Element of Fire shows us a world similar to 17th century Europe, with an added plus of magic and creatures of the Fay still a menace to humans.

The Death of the Necromancer is more like Victorian England with its own version of Sherlock Holmes, but the story is told from the viewpoint of the master thief. A new villian enters the scene and disrupts the game of cat and mouse between the detective and thief, and becomes a menace they must stop.

Re: Current book you are reading?

For those that like Tolkein give The Silmarillion a read . It was compiled by his son after his death but from J.R.R. Tolkeins unwritten manuscripts . It's a bit of a difficult read but worth the effort.
A more usual read for me would be Louis L'Amour books.

@Kerry56 , If you like the Old English books . Try Mary Stewart's Merlin Trilogy .

The Silmarillion contains some of the best fantasy stories I ever read (and some more average stuff). It contains mythology and background stories for the Hobbit/LotR universe. If you enjoy High Fantasy, this is a must-read.

Re: Current book you are reading?

I preferred Unfinished Tales to The Slimarillion, particularly the Narn i hin Hurin. I never read the later book that Christopher Tolkien published that combined all the material on this subject, called The Children of Hurin, but I know the Narn very well, and felt it would probably not be surpassed in the later book.
